Shopping

Where do you guys buy clothes now?  I'm in a weird stage I feel like.  Too old for places like Forever 21, and at least FEEL too young for places like Ann Taylor.  Also I'm like 4 inches tall, which makes it hard.

  • To be completely honest, I buy a lot of clothes at Target, it's right next to my house.  I've had terrible luck finding clothes that fit right anywhere else.  I'm interested in what everyone says because I need new clothes.  I'm "rigging" a lot of my clothes these days.  I have a pair of pants that I used paperclips on the hem that let go.  I need to learn how to sew or go shopping.

Also I've been within 2 sizes for the past 10 years, I have a hard time justifying buying new clothes when I have a closet full of clothes that fit.  Anyone want to come to Minnesota and go to the Mall of America with me?  Minnesota is tax free on all clothing.

  • I think it depends on what the clothes are for. I think the last nice outfit I got for myself was a dress from JCPenney's for my friend's wedding.

I'll be completely honest.. Most of my wardrobe are either old shirts or things that I picked up cheap from either Old Navy or Walmart. Since I work with chemicals 5 out of the 7 days of the week, I don't feel as guilty about destroying a cheap t-shirt or jeans.

  • I think I almost exclusively shop at Target right now!  Glad I'm not alone.

  • I'm about to be 30, but I'll still shop at Forever21 sometimes.  I don't think I'm too old to shop there, but I tend to buy the more conservative pieces.

I've been big on online shopping lately.  I buy A LOT from asos.com.  It can be a little pricey, but they always have sales and they're stuff is always high quality.  I've loved just about every piece I've gotten from them.  Other online stores I've bought from recently are toby.com and lulus.com.  Those last two tend to have more juniors clothing, but they have some really cute summer dresses!

If I'm shopping locally, I always find good stuff at Marshalls.  They have a lot of decent brands but inexpensive.  I also go to Charming Charlie, Target, and then some local stores that you might not have (Shasa, Papaya).

I've gotten very used to the fact that I need to basically alter every piece that I get.  I'm either too short or my boobs are too big, so I've come to terms with the fact that I rarely find things that fit perfectly.  I highly recommend either learning how to sew, which really isn't too hard, or finding a good seamstress.  I've taught myself how to hem pants and how to take things in at the waist.  If you can keep a steady hand, then you are halfway there.

  • I don't buy a ton of clothes, but when I do I try to buy really good quality so that they last a long time. I really like the Limited (I wear their jeans all the time) and Banana Republic (especially the sale section!). I'm petite, so it can be hard to find stuff that fits right at a lot of other stores. H finds a ton of stuff at Kohls, but I have yet to find something that actually fits me right in that store.

  • I'm not doing too much clothes shopping these days. But, I used to buy a fair amount from NY&Co and also Gap. I have the opposite problem of you I that I'm tall, and have crazy long legs. So, I need to shop at stores with a tall option in pants. I buy a lot of shirts at Kohls or Macys on clearance too.

  • Gap and Banana Republic are great.  You can do Ann Taylor, but it's about making it fit your style.  Some stuff is older looking, but for the past 3 or 4 years, they've been trying to appeal to young professionals and a lot of their stuff shows it.  Their pants and skirts are fabulous, especially on sale!  Loft is good too.  I really like Loft dresses.  Also check places like Macy's and Lord and Taylor.  You have to look, but you'll find good places.  At Macy's, I particularly like the INC stuff.
  • Old Navy and Kolhs. Both are hit or miss

  • I tend to shop for work clothes at Kohls when they have their sales. I do pick up some things at Target and Old Navy too.
