Appointment Update and a Question about Induction (xpost from FB)

Nothing really came of today's appointment other than my BP was high (141/91...eep), but lower than it was before the c-section (150/95) and LO hates NSTs. I did find out that I will be induced Tuesday night by use of a Foley catheter (eep.) I have no idea what to expect from that, but at least I know that next Wednesday I will be having a baby.

Has anyone ever had a Foley induction? I'm terrified it's going to hurt and I don't want to ask for an epi that early...

Glad you have (another) eviction date but no experience with the Foley bulb but I know other ladies have had it. Good luck!

What is the reason for going the bulb route? I didn't have the bulb. I had two inductions but both were pitocin. The first LO was too high to break my water. A few days later he was lower and they were able to break my water and I progressed as expected. I think a couple of girls had the bulb. I thought it was kind of painful but I'm not sure. It's labor though. I would just expect it all to be painful.

CCH - My OB tries to stay as med free as possible. Just to be clear, she's not opposed to me having an epi or painkillers though.

I had a Foley catheter on day 2 of my induction. Honestly having it placed sucked and it hurt but it didn't take that long and it helped to get things moving.

I don't have an experience with a foley bulb, just a pit indcution. good luck!

I'm a huge wuss and I didn't have the epidural before the catheter was placed. It hurt but once it was placed it didn't hurt anymore. I didn't get the epidural until I started having bad contractions with the pitocin. I would
do it again the same way.

Did they check you to see if you are dilated?

A fingertip as of yesterday, they are checking me again Tuesday morning and I'm assuming basing the induction on that. From what I'm reading I'm assuming they won't go directly to the catheter if I'm still not dilated.

I'm really wishing my BP wasn't being a factor in this. My mom took it today and it's still up.

i had high BP at 38w and they refused to let me go any longer without inducing me. my BP hadn't been routinely high prior to that. i went in to get monitored with the massive edema from the fluids i had the weekend before with the failed induction and my BP was reading in the 160's. there was no protein in my urine so it wasn't pre-e, just pregnancy induced hypertension. they gave me BP meds (which the fact that my BP was high in the first place was a bad sign because i had been on BP meds the entire pregnancy to treat my migraines) and that still didn't help. they restricted my walking privileges, gave me an IV of something and made me stay in bed on my left side the remainder of my labor. they also found out as they induced me that i had HELLP syndrome. from what i gather-high BP is a really not a great thing to have going in to labor. i would discuss with your doctor why she is letting you remain out of the hospital with such a sky high BP. i suppose at this rate it doesn't matter much. it just seems dangerous to have such an incredibly high BP and nothing be done about it. pre-e is a big deal as well.

My doctor didn't have me come in to the hospital until my blood pressure was 100/150 (if either number was higher), even then I wasn't induced until trip #4. They checked for pre-e but until the last time I didn't have any signs of it so they were okay with me being on bed rest at home and I had to monitor my bp twice a day.

No foley induction just cytotec, pitocin so I have no advice just wanted to wish you luck!
