Mini moment of excitement

edited January 2014 in October 2012 Weddings
I've been mentioning on a few of the more recent posts about how DH and I were eyeing up a house and how it was taking forever for us to go see it because of the weather being snowy. We finally went yesterday after I got done at work.
And it turned out better than I had anticipated surprisingly.

Sorry. I had to get my excitement over it out somewhere. :-)

Thanks all! We're still going back and forth on it right now. My only complaint on it was the driveway. I can definitely see why the realtor wouldn't want to take us there in the snow. It was so steep! It has a lot of potential and a big yard. It may not be a forever home, but it's at least something for a little while.
I felt like I was on an auction or American Pickers type show. Since it was a bankruptcy, there was a bunch of old items still in the house. I got a bit excited about the piano and the old timey washing machine.

  • I'm happy you were finally able to see the house and that you liked it.  I can see the driveway being a concern, but you have to decide how much of a concern it would be.  Are you able to modify the driveway at all.

H and I also saw a house we liked yesterday.  H is ready to make an offer, but I have 2 issues.  There is no garage and the street is a little busy, but not terrible.  It has a decent yard and the house is what we've been looking for.  We've lost a few bidding wars so I'm trying to figure out whether these are concerns for me or I'm just worried that we'll be outbid again.
  • yay, @consciousdear88!! I'm happy you liked it :) I'd check it out again for sure, definitely go for a 2nd showing before making an offer. If there will be a problem with the snow, go check it out if it's supposed to snow soon. It doesn't snow much here, so that wouldn't be a big issue here, but I don't know how snowy it is there.

@sjs1013 You'll definitely be outbit if you don't bid at all :) but you do have to consider if they're real issues for you. Like I suggested above, sleep on it a bit and go see it again! I want you to love the house you end up in!

  • I have a ridiculously steep driveway.  I have to park in the street run into the garage and shovel sometimes before I can park my car.  It's only ever a couple of times during the winter.  It's annoying but not something that bothers me a lot.
  • @sjs1013  We have the possibility of expanding the lot a little bit around the house. Apparently according to the property maps we were given, the driveway used to go around the house. It's possible to expand on that.

@xxjen015  We're definitely planning a second go-through before we'd make an offer or anything. We at least wanted to go through the first run through on our own. We both have immediate relatives who do housework/electrical, so we decided to bring them with next time. The only reason the snow was an issue was because the court didn't want to pay to get it plowed. It'd probably be fine at this house if we kept up on the maintenance.
