Easy Snack Ideas?

While I'm not worried about my weight or gain (I'm up 24 pounds at 28 weeks) since my doc has yet to say anything, I can't help but see a 2 lb increase every week!  Yes, I know I can get off my ass and get on the treadmill or FINALLY get back to my prenatal yoga.  But I feel like I'm not eating enough or drinking enough and that's what is hurting me.

I haven't really changed my eating habits at all since getting pg.  On workdays, I still eat breakfast (bowl of cereal) right after getting out of the shower (6-ish), snack around 9:30-ish, lunch sometime between 12:30-1:30, maybe an afternoon snack if I think of it, dinner by 7 at the latest.  That's it.  If I'm still hungry, I'll have a bowl of cereal around 8:30.  Also, if I'm at work, I try to drink as many cups of water as I can, but it still ends up only being about 3 (4 at most) of my 14 oz glass.  Once I get home, I have a glass of milk with dinner.

I know I need to be eating more often and if I do, it should, obviously, be something healthy.  I hate having to deal with prepping snacks.  What are easy, healthy snacks that you've found keep you full?  I need things I can take to work as well as have at home.

Also, what has helped you keep on track with your eating/drinking?  I was so bad yesterday.  I had a bowl of cereal around 9, went to church at 12, ran errands until close to 4 and then finally had something else to eat.  I was so hungry, but I just didn't feel like getting anything while I was out.  I had almonds in my purse but had totally forgotten about them.  I don't want to starve myself but I don't want to overeat either.  I don't know.

Thoughts?  Ideas?

Re: Easy Snack Ideas?

  • Well, your almonds are a good starting point (if you remember them!)

I love things like apple slices with cheese or peanut butter, sliced veggie of choice with hummus, and Greek yogurt. I've got some Fiber One Protein bars on hand, too for something completely non-prep/no refrigeration needed.

I'm a snacker if I'm at home.  If I'm at work, I just don't have it readily available.

  • My go to is lunch meat and cheese...sometimes with pretzels and mustard.

I need to come up with more though because I haven't been eating breakfast or lunch and I am starving by dinner. I found if I eat a few snacks throughout the day that works better for me than meals.

    So definitely following this!

  • I like oranges/clementines. They are easy...just wash them and throw them in a bag and peel them when you are ready to eat them. I also like granola bars, goldfish crackers, Graham crackers with peanut butter, etc.

  • Do you like oatmeal and are you willing to bake? I make these banana baked oatmeal singles from Emily Bites and they are excellent snacks. I lived on them when I had a newborn too. And they freeze super well so I'll do a double batch and freeze half for later.

  • I keep a granola bar and a protein granola bar in my teacher bag all the time, but i'll bring a banana, yogurt, or some kind of snacky thing to have. I have basically the same eating patterns as you, 3 meals and 2 snacks. If DH is working nights I may snack through the night instead of making something crazy for dinner. LOVE PB and apples, celery, pretzels, hummus, cheese and crackers, and frozen yogurt.
