Re: phone interviews... how long would you wait? WWGPD?

Last week I had a phone interview with a recruiter for a possible internship with a web development company (my field).  She said everything sounded good and she would pass my information along to the internship coordinators and they would be in touch sometime this week.

Now, I admit that I am totally an antsy person about all of this, but I was planning on waiting until next Wednesday before getting back in touch with the recruiter about whether they internship coordinators were going to get in touch with me.

I guess, should I get back in touch with her at all?  If so, is next Wednesday an acceptable length of time to wait for?

If she's just the recruiter than I would have no problem contacting her. It's not like you're hounding your potential new boss. It's the recruiters job to keep you in the loop too.

    I'm a recruiter.

Wait til Friday and then email her. If you don't get a response, call next week.

If I tell someone that they'll hear next week, and they start blowing up my phone before that deadline has passed, I would be annoyed. While being excited is a good quality, so is patience.

Basically, if a hiring manager wants to interview you, you will get a call.

    All of this.

A week is enough time.  Email first to follow up and if you still don't hear anything a few days later pick up the phone.  If you haven't heard anything it's most likely because the recruiter hasn't either (or the hiring manager wasn't interested and they don't want to hurt your feelings).  They're not likely to send you an email to say, "Hey. No word yet. Just wanted to let you know." It's good to show interest and good follow-up, but ILRV is right; if they want to interview you, you'll get a call as soon as the recruiter does.

  • Thanks for the advice, ladies!  If I don't hear from anyone on Thursday or Friday I'll probably shoot out an email sometime on Monday just to follow up.
