Naked! I never paint my fingernails because they always chip and it drives my OCD nuts!

I do need to paint my toenails though, they need help. Lol

ETA: UPDATE I repainted my toenails, they are a very pretty red now. :)

  • Nothing right now, but I have a really pretty grey color that I want to try.  I have really bad ridges on my fingernails, so anytime they don't have polish on them, they look all gross and stuff.  My toes are a pretty burgundy though.
  • Nothing right now and my toenails are a little embarassing....didn't think about that when we went house hunting last week and I had to remove my shoes. :(

Does anyone have suggestions for nail polish that stays on difficult nails?  I paint mine and the next day, I can peel it off in sheets.  It does chip from time to time, but if I catch a corner, the whole thing pulls off.  Suggestions??
  • Some Zoya navy and white on my fingers. Toes are the navy Zoya pixie dust and a Julep gray.
    You are crazy talented.

@bremae, do you find it difficult to do on your own? I'm usually really messy with my polish, but I love getting gel a the salon, so I was considering investing in one of the at home product lines.

Is it a patience or a skill thing? I have patience, but skill is 4/10.

  • @lindsayandjamie I think it's a bit of both. Mostly when taking the polish off! As long as you are ok investing in your own polish, and a good polish at that. Drug stores sell some but they just end up peeling off. I like gelish or finger paints the best. These are both used in salons.

I love doing my own. I hated paying for it all the time. I've gotten better the more I do it, I used to be really messy with polish but I'm not anymore. I also really like the fact that I don't have to wait around for my nails to dry. I don't have the patience half the time!

Do you use base and topcoat? I know if I don't it starts chipping literally the same day.  As far as peeling, make sure you're not using too many coats and your polish isn't too thick.  Also, make sure your nails are completely clean and dry before you polish.  I always rub them with some nail polish remover before I start to get rid of any dirt/oil that my be on my nail.  HTH!

All of this, but also, using a great quality polish has made a
world of difference for me. No matter what I did before, my polish would be chipping 24 hours (at most) after I applied it.

I'm now in LOVE with Julep and Zoya polishes, because they've lasted SO much better than anything else I've purchased, including my beloved OPI or Essie polishes.

  • Thanks for the suggestions, @PandPMeant2B and @LuckyAngel07.  Looks like I need to invest in some better polish.  I typically do a top coat, but not a base coat.  Also, I'm a bit impatient with the drying process so I probably put on the top coat before the color is completely dry. :)
