NBR: Las Vegas Must See/Do/Eat
Hey ladies!
Late next month, DH and I are going to Vegas for the first time ever. There's SO much information out there are things to see or places to eat. What are your musts? We are staying at Treasure Island because that's where we got the best deal. DH wants to go see Penn & Teller for sure and I want to see a Cirque show possibly.
Any places to eat you recommend or things to do/see besides obviously drinking and gambling?
Re: NBR: Las Vegas Must See/Do/Eat
As far as stuff on the strip and downtown, I went a few years ago now, so I'm really no help. Things change there so fast!
Sugar & Spice
Our splurge meal was at the Eiffel Tower restaurant for lunch, and it was worth it. Beautiful view, the food was incredible, and I loved that it was quiet (I got a little overstimulated in Vegas).
We saw two Cirque shows: Zoomanity, which is adults only, and Ka. Both were worth the price.
Um.....If you are afraid of height, don't do the elevator to the top of the Eiffel tower - I almost had a panic attack up there, although it's a fun view of the water show.
I Love MESA Grill (in Ceasars) and we go every time we're there! Our last trip we splurged on Hubert Keller's Fleur (Mandalay Bay) and it was so worth it! We ate at Julian Serrano's in Aria and it was tiny plates that weren't worth (taste-wise) what we paid. We ended up eating a second dinner. StripHouse was a standout intimate steakhouse meal. If you can't tell, eating in Vegas is my favorite part! You can take a cheap cab to get to In N Out off the strip too.
If you go through the casinos, there are free monorail type things between Mandalay, Luxor & Excalibur, as well as one that goes from T.I. To the Mirage.
The Beatles Cirque show and Penn and Teller were both very good!
I got myself a massage at one of the hotel spas and enjoyed that.

The Bellagio buffet changed my life.
Also, Mon Ami Gabi's brunch was real good.
my read shelf:
Hash House A Go GO has awesome breakfast! http://www.hashhouseagogo.com/
Serendipity 3 was also a favorite restaurant of ours.
Last time we were there we ate at Gordon Ramsey Steak at the Paris. I thought the braised short ribs were amazing and my dad loved his steak. DH was underwhelmed. But, Paris is my favorite hotel and casino and while I can rarely (ok never) afford to stay there it is my favorite place to visit, gamble, and eat. Le Creperie in Paris gets mixed reviews but I've never had a bad meal there. Mon Ami Gabi at Paris has a pretty excellent brunch.
The Bellagio buffet is great but, for my money, the best is the Bacchanal buffet in Caesars Palace.
Skip secret pizza at the Cosmopolitan. It was awful, especially if you come from a pizza town. But, if you're going out the Rio to see Penn and Teller you can eat at the Burger King. They have topping options that you don't ever see and my husband nearly fell over. Their buffet is okay, too. If you want you can walk across the street to the Gold Coast to get some old Vegas feel. The casino is outdated and old-looking but the cocktail service is good and it is usually quite and not very crowded. I wouldn't eat there. Also, if you want to play bingo, Gold Coast is the closest place to the strip.
I don't very often travel downtown but when I was there I thought it was okay. It was cool to see the old casinos and the light show (Fremont Street Experience) was fun. If you want, you can zip line down Fremont street. I wouldn't walk, especially at night, since the area between the Wynn and downtown (passing the Stratosphere, Riviera, and Circus Circus) is not that great. Also, it is a really long walk. There is a bus (the deuce) that runs 24 hours a day between the strip and downtown. A 24 hour pass was $7 last time we were there.
I tend to favor the mid or center-strip to the Wynn for most of my trips (I think TI would be considered center strip, too). I don't often venture down to MGM, Excalibur, Tropicana, or the other hotels down there. We usually stay at Harrah's and spend most of our time in that area unless we are going to a show.
The best cocktail service I've experienced has been at Harrah's, Paris, and the Palazzo. Be careful when sitting at video poker machines at the bars. Some of the casinos have started to require a maximum bet for complimentary drink service (I'm thinking of the Wynn in particular).
Geez, I guess I could yammer on about Vegas for pages. I've been there at least twice a year since I was 21 (31 now) and love it each time I go. Message me for more so I don't continue to bore everyone to death.
This. I'm not a fan of Vegas at all (the strip/casinos a area) really but red rocks and Hoover dam and lake Meade were great.
