I never get heartburn, but...

I have gotten it for almost a week, a little more each day. This is something I may have gotten a few times in my life, and usually when I had eaten really bad food. Well, this past week I have been eating fairly healthy, even exercising a few days a week, yet I get heartburn every day. Today it is really bothering me. I have had water, vitamin water and a small bowl of Special K cereal. What gives?? :( This sucks, I feel sorry for people who get this a lot. It hurts...

  • I use to get it all the time. I started eating healthier and stopped having problems. I've had problems again lately because I haven't been eating like I should. Hoping going back to healthy eating will help.

Heartburn suuucks!  Only advice I have is Tums.... they are my BFF sometimes.

ETA: I just remembered some people swear by having some OJ to signal your body to stop producing acid.  Milk/cream will cool the burn, but OJ actually addresses the problem. It helps me sometimes.

  • I'm sorry, heartburn sucks! I hardly ever get it as well, but when I do, it always seems to be when I'm sleep-deprived. Hopefully that helps?

  • Heartburn absolutely sucks!  I had it so bad a couple nights ago that I didn't get any sleep until around 8 AM.  I'm sorry you're dealing with it.

I usually take Zantac 75 or Zantac 150 and drink small sips of water.  I've also heard that Gavascon (spelling?) helps, although it's pretty nasty tasting and not great going down.

  • Unfortunately, I have chronic reflux and take Pepcid (20mg) every day. Tums helps temporarily, but if I ever miss a dose of Pepcid, I'm hurting by lunchtime. Hopefully yours is just a one time thing (and gone by now!).
