Hello!  So I am new to TN but was on TK for awhile.  Thought I would take a moment to intro myself:

I'm Charlene and DH is Brent.   We have been together for a total of 10 years and married since Sept 2011. We were married on the beaches in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, hence my screen name OBX2011.....which I am thinking of creating a new acct btw b/c I want something new.  We have a yellow lab, Sarabelle, that is the love of our life.  Where we go, she goes.  It's her house, we just live in it and pay the bills.

We have been trying to conceive for over a year now and for the most part, I am positive but there are moments (like last night, cough cough) that I feel like I am never going to be pregnant.  Every time I hear or see a commercial about getting pregnant or having babies, I immediately turn the channel.  Sometimes I feel that if I hear another "ohhhh don't worry, it'll happen when it's supposed too" I may strangle that person.  Ok not really...but maybe ;)

I was using OPK's, but found that to be a love/hate relationship.  I loved knowing when I was ovulating but at the same time, hated it b/c I felt like it put a lot of pressure on us.  My OB doesn't believe in them and feels that they are a waste of time.  Not sure how I feel about that b/c they wouldn't make them in the first place if they didn't serve an actual purpose.  I was reading all sorts of books and using calculators in early to mid 2013, but in Sept, I just put them all away and let my mind be at rest.  It's as if I was over-thinking everything.  Went to Dr in August and he said I was healthy and didn't have any signs of endometriosis and had B get a s/a, which came back "normal".  Since then, nothing has changed so I have a follow-up appt next week.  I am scared.  I don't know what to expect and I apologize in advance if this offends anyone as that is not my intention but dammit! Can't I just get pregnant like a woman is supposed too?  WTFrenchToast???  I never thought I would be in this place and I don't know what to expect.  I have never temped (?) or charted before either. Is that bad?

Any questions for me, feel free to ask away.  Any heads up on what's to come next would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ladies!

P.S.  I wear all sorts of panties, but hiphuggers are the most comfy for me. (I saw the poll earlier so don't think I am some weirdo who likes to talk about her panties.....or maybe I am???)

Re: New Here

  • Have you read taking charge of your fertility? (TCOYF). A lot of us here temp and chart to make sure we are ovulating. It can be daunting at first, but with the tutorials on fertilityfriend.com it makes it a whole lot easier!
The women here are very wise and supportive. I have learned a lot from them in the last 2 years I have been here.
  • Also- what do you do for work?
  • Welcome to the board!  You certainly don't have to temp or chart, but I found it very useful because it helps you track exactly when you do ovulate or helps you find out if you aren't actually ovulating.  Good luck!

Yes, that is one of the books I was reading....and then put away.  I may be pulling it out again given where I am at and will consider temping/charting.

  • Welcome! I'm sorry you have passed the year mark, but I hope there is a BFP on it's way soon! Definitely look into TCOYF and consider temping. Good luck!

Also I love your dog's name, very pretty. :)

  • Ditto @nfp147. If you've been trying for over a year my recommendation would be to see an RE. Not bc I necessarily think anything is wrong, but an ob can only do so much for you and I'd rather you not waste your time plugging away if there was something you could fix/change or was impeding you. Good luck in your journey.

  • Welcome! TCOYF was way too much info for me. I found the tutorials on fertilityfriend to be much better! Well, that and this board. I probably learned more from GP than I did anywhere else. Hitting that 1 year mark sucks for sure :( Since you've passed the 1 year mark, have you thought about going to an RE vs just an OB?  Stick around, ask questions, and good luck! :)

I second the bolded. I did plug away at TCOYF but it is a rather boring read. The fertility friend website has tons of great information.

Welcome to the board and good luck moving forward!

  • Welcome to the board! I'm sorry you're experiencing trouble with TTC. Many ladies here understand that frustration all too well, myself among them.

Ditto PPs; they all have great advice. I also found the tutorials and info on Fertility Friend plenty for my own comfort level in tracking things. Because my cycles can vary considerably and are considered long (>35 days), temping/charting was the only thing that gave me a any idea what my body was doing and when I could expect AF (or try testing, if I was feeling hopeful).

I truly hope your BFP is not far off!

Also, my SM and dad rent a house in Corolla for a week every year. OBX is a great place!

I actually made an appt for a f/up visit with my OB next week to see what the next steps are.  I am sure that he will refer me to a RE.
