Going off Mirena to prep for TTC

So my hubby and I are planning on TTC starting in July.  I have had the Mirena in for 2 years and LOVED it!  It has been the best!  I am getting it removed tomorrow because I want to regulate and be free of hormones before we try.  (Before Mirena I had very irregular cycles (ranging from 12 days to 62 days) and since going on Mirena I have not had any periods in the 2 years and 2 months I have had it.)

My questions for others who have had Mirena are:
How long did it take you to regulate after getting it removed?
How bad was the first month after?  (I have heard horror stories of terrible bleeding and clots!)

Re: Going off Mirena to prep for TTC

  • No advice, but I wanted to wish you good luck with the procedure to remove it as well TTC in July.

Good luck on your TTC journey!
  • I just recently had Mirena removed so I can't speak from personal experience, but I have been told that you do not need to wait for your cycles to regulate. The level of hormones that are released are small enough so that most women continue to ovulate even if they do not have a menstrual cycle.  I did have very mild cramping and slight spotting each month. A couple days after having it removed I did start spotting a bit, but it lasted only a couple days.

I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love.
