Dumb Question

Is a travel system just basically buying the stroller and the car seat together?  Is there an advantage to buying them together vs buying them separately?

Re: Dumb Question

  • The travel system is the car seat, base and stroller. Depending on the kind of items you want, it may be cheaper to buy the system together. When DD I had a travel system. I currently have none of the pieces since I've donated the car seat and base, and threw out the stroller since it was damaged.

This time around, I won't be buying a travel system. I want to buy a stroller that has a sit down seat for Lexi, but a seat that can be converted from a car seat connection to a regular seat. It will just be easier for me to buy everything separately.

It also depends on preference. You might like one stroller, but hate the car seat. At least this way, you get both the items you like.

  • I think with the complete travel systems you can also plunk the car seat right into the stroller so you never have to take LO out of it and can just transition straight from car to walking around and back to car.

  • Yep, the system is the infant car seat, car seat base and stroller. For us, it was worth it rather than buying the pieces separately. We could have just started with the convertible car seat, but it's been so much easier to just unsnap the car seat and transfer that onto the stroller.

  • I wasn't terribly interested in any of the travel systems.  So I got the City Mini, Chicco carseat, and the adapter so I could put the carseat on the stroller.  I loved the way the City Mini handled and the super easy fold.  With the adapter it acts just like a travel system.

  • We have the graco car seat and graco snap n go and we have a bob and a convertible car seat. I haven't heard good things about the travel systems.

  • Most travel systems tend to be heavier and bulkier than if you were to buy things separately. You can get the same functionality either way. However, they are typically less expensive when you add everything up.

Similar to cinderin, we have a graco car seat and snap n go. Several other strollers have attachments that allow you to use your car seat with the stroller. You'll want either a travel system, snap n go, or car seat attachment for the stroller you choose for when they are young and can't sit up in a stroller on their own. Then you can just put the car seat directly into whichever option.

Noe that we have two, we use the joovy caboose ultralight (sit n stand) if we have both kids with us. We can put the car seat in the front and Delilah can sit or stand on the back. Works great for us. Also now that zack sits, he can sit in the front part if we don't want to keep him in the car seat.

  • I think PP explained it well.  I just wanted to add we bought the Graco snugride infant seat and a snap and go for the car for when he was young and light, switched to the UppaBaby G-Lux umbrella for the car when he was able to sit up on his own.  We wanted small, light and easy to use for out and about.  Now he's in a convertable car seat and we use our umbrella only when we are mall shopping or for travel.

We also have a BOB Revolution for walks/runs at home as well as when we go camping or hikes.

I think you need to look at your needs, budget and space and decide on the best option for you.  I loved the snap and go for the first 6 months for being easy to pop him in and out of the car but not having it take up much space.

I LOVE it. Even my mom, with an awful back, can collapse and lift the stroller and everything easily. I highly recommend it. The 3 wheels make for easy maneuvering, without the bigger jogging strller too.

AND it fits in my husbands small car (an old camry)....if you drive a smaller car make sure to check that whatever stroller/system you get fits in your trunk. :) My friend was in love with a jogging stroller and got it...only to find it didn't fit in her car.

SO true! I drive a mini (the 4 door one), so that was definitely a concern! I decided if not even a stroller would fit in the trunk it would be time for a new car.

We have the regular (non-sport) version of this and really liked it. I'm pretty small and puny and have never had an issue with the stroller being too big. It's a lot lighter than strollers of similar size. I was happy with the travel system.

  • We got the Britax B-Agile system and the stroller is really lightweight, easy to maneuver and really easy to collapse. We got it at Target when they were running a sale, so the price ended up not really being a big factor in our decision. I did go to Buy Buy Baby and 'test drove' quite a few of their strollers and I ended up liking this one the best.

  • When I was looking at my options, I knew I wanted a jogging stoller and an umbrella stoller.  TO me it wasn't worth it to get a whole travel system with a 3rd stroller in it.  I ended up getting the Chicco Liteway Plus - it's an umbrella that converts into a travel system where you can put the car seat in as well!  I LOVE IT - and am super happy I went this route.  I ended up only needing to but the stoller and the car seat (which came with a base) and then we got an extra base for DH's car.

    Here's a link to it - http://www.chiccousa.com/liteway-plus/home.aspx
