Which Susanna Kearsley book?

I have 5 of her books on my Kindle and I still haven't read any of her books. Where should I start?

I have

Winter Sea
Rose Garden
The Shadowy Horses

ETA: Of The Winter Sea, The Shadowy Horses and The Firebird, make sure you read The Firebird last.  There are some tie-ins.

  • I started Marianna last week (my first of her novels). Read that one with me!

  • The winter sea!

  • I haven't read Marianna, but out of the other 4 I would suggest The Winter Sea.

Followed in succession by Shadowy Horses and Firebird.

  • I'd read Mariana as it's unrelated to the other 3 which do have tie ins. I'd then read The Winter Sea, Shadowy Horses, and finally The Firebird

  • I started Mariana this morning!
  • I love all of them, but especially The Winter Sea and The Firebird. You can't go wrong with any of them!

  • Wait, these aren't a series, right? Just tie ins? I own Firebird, but it's the only one I have. Will it make sense if I read it first?

  • I'd go with Mariana or Shadowy Horses first. The Rose Garden was awesome too, but I thought it was slow getting to the meat of the story. I'm reading the Winter Sea right now and I'm so glad I didn't choose this as my intro to SK because I might've given up on it and missed out on one of my new favorite authors. I know so many others have raved about it, but it's not pulling me in nearly as much as her others have, but I trust Susanna Kearsley enough to stick it out and see where it goes.

They are definitely stand alone books and it will make sense on its own. But some of the characters are in other the other books so I think you get a richer understanding of the characters.

I would at least read 'The Winter Sea' before 'The Firebird'.  It will make a whole lot more sense.

You're right.  They're separate stories but some of the characters cross over.

I'm having a similar reaction with Mariana.  I found it all too easy to put down in favor of something else.
