Re: Snow?

  • I was off yesterday for the holiday and now today for snow.  We're expecting 6-10" which is sadly the most snow we've received in probably 3 years.

I'm WFH because, while the snow hadn't started this morning when I would have left for work, I do NOT want to deal with traffic on the way home.  I take one of the heavily-traveled commuter routes every day and a majority of people refuse to slow down in any precipitation.  I didn't feel comfortable driving this afternoon.  Plus, our office gave us the option to WFH or use leave.  WFH it is.  :)

I WFH on Tuesdays, so while I'm not at work, we are operating as usual for the time being. Although, our DC office is closed today because of the weather.

It hasn't started snowing here yet, but the forecasts are all over the place with crazy amounts. I have a feeling if it's as bad as all that, we'll have a snow day tomorrow. I can live with that, for sure! :)

  • We do. We are supposed to get 4-8 inches of snow today. We get to make up this day at Easter though...boo! We only have one more make up day and then they start putting them on the end of the year. I really don't want that!

It's supposed to be frigid here tomorrow so I think we will have a delay at the very least. I hope we can get the day in though!

  • They keep increasing it by 2-4 inches everytime I look up. Right now we are in the 6-12 range, but schools are still in for now. They are dismissing half day, but I am working in a school for the day (Im normally in the main office) and my ladies arent being dismissed until 1:20. I work for Food services, so once we start serving, we have to finish. I think we had maybe 50 kids come in for breakfast. A huge chunk of people just kept their kids home.

  • No snow yet but we're in for a doozy tonight into tomorrow so I will be working from home tomorrow, most likely. It actually SUCKS because Wednesdays are my busiest days and in the office I have the convenience of a double monitor...no such luck at home.

Luckily, our district had two days built in at the end of this marking period.  Next Monday and Tuesday were already scheduled days off for the students (not staff) because of high school exams.  So now they just shift the exam schedule and the students will have to come to school on the day off next week.

  • @looneylife and @rccola1981, our district builds in snow make up days throughout the year. We had two built in after New Years but since we hadn't had any snow days until that point we got those days off. This is only our second snow day so we lose Presidents' Day and now the Thursday before Easter. We have Easter Monday left as a make up and then the rest of the days will be made up in June.

I hope we don't have too many more days though because when school is closed, my DH doesn't get paid because he is an hourly employee. It sucks.

  • Just got home. It hadn't started this morning when I left & we don't close for anything. The roads are getting pretty bad. I got stuck on the street next to mine (going up hill). My hubby walked over with a shovel & some salt so I was able to get up the street. I'm definitely dreading the ride in tomorrow.

  • @uptowngirl2009 our district is one of the few around that doesn't usually have the vacation days as snow make-ups, however they decided last week to take President's day because of the renovations. DH is off and we had talked about doing something nice with the long weekend for Valentine's day because he was hurt for our anniversary, but now it doesn't look real likely.

see, this map says I'm riiiight on the edge of the 10-15" mark... whereas all the news things I've been seeing have said 5-10" .. hmph, I guess only time will tell.

I took a half day today. I told my boss I'm not coming back to work after lunch if the roads were bad--and surprise! They were! :shrugs: no one cares about my safety getting to and from work, so I have to. I'm jealous of all of you that have employers that close when the weather is bad, lol.

We're officially closed tomorrow, too (I might have checked my e-mail tonight out of innocent curiosity). I'm trying to decide if I should actually go into the office on Thursday, or work from home, as would be typical for my Thursday. If I don't go in, the only day this week I'll be in the office will be Friday, ha!
