Buddy Reads - If I Stay (SP)

@ZeusLBA and I read If I Stay by Gayle Foreman.  I was surprised it was so short - only 197 pages.  We were going to do a midway post and a final post, but both of us read it straight through...

-Gramps.  Gramps absolutely slayed me.  I didn't shed a tear until the scene where Gramps talked to her alone, saying it was okay to go.  Oh, the ugly tears.

-Adam.  The big gesture to get in to see Mia was my least favorite part.  I know that it was the comedic relief in such a serious book, but it was SUCH a grand gesture that it just didn't seem real.

This was a 5-star book for me.  I have such a book hangover, I'm afraid to read anything but fluff for the near future.

  • I loved Where She Went even more.

  • I really loved Where She Went, but I wasn't blown away by If I Stay.  I listened to both of the audiobooks, and they were great audiobooks, too.
  • I was also very surprised at how short the book was.  I also didn't really like that it didn't really have chapters, just divided by times.

I knew going into this book that it was going to be a sad story, but I didn't know exactly what happens.  I don't like sad books but the way this was written, it was a little easier to deal with.

I like that they had Mia go back and forth to different parts of her life to show her back story as well as her family's even though you don't really have them in much of the present story.

I did like Adam and Gramps.  Gramps was a tough man but when it came time to do something for Mia, he did.  I really liked that Adam at such a young age really cared for Mia as shown in the chaotic hospital scene.

I gave the book four stars.  I rarely give books five stars.  I did enjoy it but it was so short so now I have to go and read Where She Went which maybe should have been the same book.
  • I agree about liking Where She Went better!
