Do any of you awesome ladies have any tips for New York City??
My sister is taking me to NYC for the Superbowl. She is a die-hard Manning fan, and she wants to watch him play in the Superbowl. So, she needed someone to go with her, so she asked me. She is crazy, but oh well. We'll be in NYC from Saturday 2/1 - Tuesday 2/4. We fly into JFK and arrive around 3:30pm on Saturday. We won't be checking bags, so we won't have to mess with that. We haven't booked a hotel yet, but I believe she's looking to stay around the Times Square area. We'll be looking at hotels tonight. We leave NYC on Tuesday at 3pm.
I have done some searching...I know we can take a train from Penn Station to the Meadowlands Sports Complext for $10.50 round trip.
I'm sure we'll be cramming a lot into our trip. I've been to NYC a couple times. My sister has never been before.
We won't be looking to spend a TON of money (which, we both know it IS NYC and it is expensive out there)...but do you ladies have any suggestions on places to eat (not too expensive) or cheaper things todo?
Saturday - Arrive in NYC. I believe she'll want to visit the Super Bowl Boulevard on Times Square this day.
Sunday - Superbowl game is at 6:30pm. Gates open at 2pm. I'm guessing we'll want to be at the game by 4:30pm.
Monday - Free to do whatever
Tuesday - Leaving NYC at 3pm. Guessing we'll want to be at the airport no later than 1:30pm.
I know we'll walk around Times Square. I would like to visit the 9/11 Memorial. I've never been to Rockefellar Center, so I would like to walk around that. I've also never been down to the financial district, so I think that would be cool. I definitely think she should go to Central Park. She mentioned the Empire State Building.
Re: New York City!
Food: For a more inexpensive lunch, go to the Chelsea Market. It's a renovated building, with a bunch of little shops/vendors inside and also the home of Food Network. Definitely go to Fat Witch Bakery in there and get a brownie. Or 5. We also went to Momofuku noodle bar and OMG so good. For the life of me I can't remember the name of a really great Italian place we had dinner one night. If I do, I'll come back and tell you. I would avoid eating in Times Square.
To do: I've been to the top of the Empire State Building, and depending on what time of day you go, it might not be worth it for you -- the lines can get really long. It's also kind of expensive. That's something you'll have to weigh for yourself. DO NOT go to the Statue of Liberty. It takes forever. however, it will probably be arctic blast while you are there so you weren't thinking of doing it, anyway. If you go down to the financial district, you might want to ride the Staten Island Ferry. Awesome views of the city from there, and very cheap. Also it's a nice subway stop -- drops you off right by the terminal. When I was there last, it was gorgeous weather so we walked from that ferry stop through the South Street Seaport area (tons of little bars and restaurants with good seafood deals -- go to the smaller shops, not the commercialized ones) and up through the financial district to Chinatown. The weather may keep you from doing this.
Also, just a couple weeks after we were there, Sandy hit, and I know a lot of those little restaurants were devastated, so hopefully they got cleaned up.
If you want brunch before the SuperBowl, Cowgirl has a good one. If you like seafood, Lobster Joint is also great.
