Would you ever settle down in your hometown? (meaning YOURS, not your H's)

In Christ alone my hope is found. He is my LIGHT, my STRENGTH, and my SONG!

T-TTC since Dec 2008. PCOS/nonexistant cycles(anovulation) and endo. HSG in '10 revealed both tubes blocked. Lap surgery in Dec '10 to correct. Failed Clomid/IUI and injectable(Bravelle)/IUI cycles so far.

  • We currently live in my H's hometown. Mine is only 10 minutes away, we looked there but the taxes are higher and we wouldn't get as much for our money. I wouldn't mind living there, but it's actually easier to live closer to my ILs then my family. Plus, this is closer to both of our jobs.

  • I always have trouble with what to consider as my hometown. I lived three places for six years each. But I wouldn't live where I went to high school, although it is only 40 minutes away. It is too suburban and too far away from the city.

  • I don't have anywhere I'd consider my hometown. I moved around a lot and by the time I was in high school, that was my 9th school. We went to whatever school my dad was teaching at and he has authority problems and rarely got along with the administration so never lasted more than a year or two in any one place until his latest school district.

  • While I think it might be more affordable to live there (about an hour from where we live now), the public schools suck, it would mean a longer train commute into the city for me, and DH would be like 2 hours from his company's office (he's always in the field, but does have to swing by the office every now and then, not to mention most of his job sites have been closer to where we live now than if we moved to where I lived when I was kid).

If we move anywhere in the near future, it will probably be a major relocation with both of us finding new jobs. Which is both a really exciting idea to me and utterly terrifying.

  • I'm close enough to my parents...I don't want to live in the same city where they can drop by whenever.  I love them, don't get me wrong, but they are having really bad empty nest syndrome right now.

Granted, we are in the same area, and I love Northern VA.

  • I basically do live in my hometown. Both DH and i's parents are about 20 minutes away, but we are in such a rural area. Our kids will go to another school than either of us (assuming we stay here and our district doesn't combine). I work in the school I went to and wanted my kids to go to a different school, if I could move our house to DH parents land I would in a heartbeat.

  • DH and I actually grew up in the towns next to each other, and went to the same schools. While I really enjoyed it as a kid, it's far to secluded and small to enjoy as an adult. I don't know how my parents did it, it's a 30 minute drive just to go to Walmart and almost 45 minutes to a Target. And when we were really young, before they built more closer to home, it was an hour drive.

  • We might, because the school system is good, but we'd definitely be happier somewhere more urban. We're city peoples.
