Did you know this?

We ended up rushing L to the doctor yesterday because I thought he was having an allergic reaction.  I noticed he was covered in hives after he woke up from his afternoon nap.  He has had a small reaction in the past to soy, so we just try to avoid it as much as possible.  I automatically thought we gave him something that had a large amount of soy in it, and he was reacting to it.

When we got to the doctor, the doctor told me it was actually a viral infection he was fighting.  I felt terrible because I had NO idea he was even sick.  He did not show a single symptom (he is now but not at that time).  Apparently, hives are more common in viral infections in children than allergic reactions.  Who knew?!  I surely didn't.

M had a viral rash when she was around 8 months old. It was tiny red bumps, they didn't look like hives. I took her to the pedi because I wasn't sure what it was. It's pretty common in babies/young children.

  • I was told that a rash could be a sign if a viral infection but didn't know that included hives. Glad he is okay! And don't feel bad that you didn't know. Sometimes kiddos can be sick without showing much sign of it!
