Appliance shopping

...makes me wanna puke. Our new place has nothing, so we need:

- Washer/dryer

- Oven/stove

- Over the range microwave

- Dishwasher

- Refrigerator

Every place we go to does a competitor price match, so the trick is to find the place that has all of our favorites. The dimensions of our fridge seem to be what limits us. I really want a bottom drawer freezer. *gags*

H and I were thinking stainless steel, but it's more expensive and shows fingerprints, so I'll move past it. *gags*

It's just that all the features tend to blur together and send me into an emotional vortex, but I'm trying to power through it because I know it needs to be done. I just REALLY don't want to fight with H over this stuff, I just don't wanna have to talk about it more than necessary so I'm really hoping we can just agree on stuff. *BARF*

I feel your pain!! We need a washer and dryer for the new house and it's been a nightmare. H totally doesn't care what I pick out so he's no help. I'm so overwhelmed by the price matching and the feature comparing. Last time we went out, I couldn't handle it so we went and got jce cream then came home lol

I actually work at an applian e repair place so I know quite a bit about appliances. H and I usually can buy our appliances at a much discounted price since I can buy directly from the manufacturer. If you have any questions I can help!

Appliance shopping was easy for us. I knew I didn't want, or need, super high end products so I set a price limit for each (fridge, washer, dryer) and looked at what was within my budget. I didn't make it complicated, I picked what I liked and I haven't been disappointed yet. FWIW, my cheaper washer/dryer works just as wells as the $1000 ones my friend just bought. Actually, better since her's has already busted in less than 9 months!

We have an absolute price limit (including tax, delivery, extra parts, all of it) of $4K for all of it, but we are shooting for $3K (which is less realistic, but the more we try the closer we'll be). It's just so much shopping to do in such a short period of time and it's just draining. I just feel so tired afterwards.

H says "Yes! Teach me!!" What are your opinions on the mass market brands? We are looking at Whirlpool (plus subsidiaries), GE, kitchen aid. And... Go!

We are also appliance shopping for our new house. I think we spent almost 3 hours in one store. Ugh. We still aren't done, and that was just kitchen stuff!

i suppose it helps that hubby grew up in a restaurant and his hobby is cooking. Appliance shopping was/is really fun for us.

i usually just trust his judgement on anything im not sure about however.

Haha too funny. Whirlpool is AMAZING! Highly recommended great warranty and very reliable Kitchenaid is actually made by Whirlpool along with Maytag. Those are obviously my first choice brands always. Then you have Frigidaire also pretty good but their laundry items not so much so with this I would stick to kitchen only. GE I refuse to buy all together! 1 the price can sometimes be higher depending on what you buy. GE laundry is horrible and will always break down eventually. Kitchen stuff isn't as bad but still not a risk I would take. Also if your GE breaks down be prepared to wait and spend a fortune if the warranty is out. Also stay far far away from brands like Samsung, LG, Bosch, Fisher Paykel those brands are not made in the U.S and you will fair FOREVER on parts. I agree with Spalko when it comes to washer/dryers cheaper is honestly usually better I'd go with a top load with a normal agitator. Nothing fancy just a standard washer those seem to last much longer. Also with Whirlpool stay away from a Cabrio and with Maytag stay away from the Bravos for some reason that line of washer/dryers are having problems and we seem to work on those all the time. Try to,stay away from washer/dryers that have those boards in it and you will know it because all the buttons are electronic. The boards tend to go out very easy and the cost a lot and that's with all brands. If you have any questions let me know!

We bought a samsung kitchen suite (dishwasher, fridge and range and over the range microwave) from HH Greg, they price matched the sale lowes was having and gave us free delivery. We have a narrow galley kitchen so we were really limited on space. We actually had 2 sets of washer/dryers from when we merged households so we kept mine since they were newer and sold his. Our washer/dryer is pretty basic, I've heard horror stories about the HE stuff regarding odors and such.

No problem. We won't even work on those brands because you have to be asked by the company to be certified and they have asked us but we refuse to because it is way more complicated than you would think.

@geojam224 Also if you have a Sears in the area stay away! Ken,ore is made by Sears and only Sears can do the warranty. If your Sears is anything like ours they will rip you off. Ours tells people all the time that it can't be repaired or else will cost too much and no they don't pay for you to get a new one even if it's still under warranty.

@mancila60 Uh oh. We were gonna get our stuff from Sears. My parents have all their appliances from sears and they love it. And we knew to stay far away from Kenmore stuff. It was the only place that had all the models we wanted (mostly whirlpool, 2 maytags) and they are running a 20% off sale, so it would save us about $700. Stop us if you see any red flags here!

Whirlpool/Maytag great brands! The only thing with buying them at Sears is sometimes they are made by Sears so you have to watch that. As long as you don't buy Kenmore or LG, Samsung, Bosch anything like that then buying it from Sears should actually be ok.

Oh can I just give my opinion on the washer. Most people want the front loader because it is the cool new thing but we have one and now I want a top loader

So my advice is to get a cool top load washer.

Fromt loaders look so nice but top loaders are so much better. I have a top load washer in my house and if it breaks it's much cheaper to fix and much easier. They also last longer.

I really want a top loader washer without the agitator. You can get so much more in them. Our friend has one and we used it when we were dogsitting and it is fantastic.

They can be but you have to remember they use way less water. So don't freak if you see it doesn't "fill all the way up". We get that compliant a lot and nothing is wrong.

I just know my reasoning is because mold grows behind the rubber part where the door is. and we have to leave the door open after every wash so it doesnt stink.. its just a pain.
