Cat scratch sofa covers

Has anyone ever used these plastic things you put onto your sofas to prevent cats from scratching? If so, how do you like them? Are they pretty discreet? We are planning on buying new sofas soon and want these things as well. Hopefully providing them with additional scratching posts/objects will help too. Declawing is not an option so please don't mention that :) thank you.

Re: Cat scratch sofa covers

  • I've never seen those before. If you get a microfiber fabric, the cats won't be able to claw through the fabric and rip it as easy as a linen or leather couch.  We have two cats and they have scratched at our brand new microfiber couch a few times while we weren't paying attention and it left no mark at all.  I would suggest getting a spray bottle for discipline for when your cats do scratch the furniture. The best way to fix this issue is to teach them not to scratch at the furniture.
  • We've used those plastic things (i assume you mean the sticky clear ones?) They're relatively discreet, but you can definitely still see them.  That said, our cats just scratched through them and then proceeded to eat the plastic because they're jerks who like ruining things. The thing that has worked best for us has been additional scratching posts and a water bottle. And a good needle and thread to sew up the couch. *sigh* Did I mention they're jerks?
