Newbie with a LASIK question

Hi Ladies!

My name is Amanda, been married for almost 4 years, and live in Funkytown. I usually lurk on the Deco and Reno boards because we live in a 1918 fixer upper and I need all the help I can get. Anyways, February is my husbands big 3-0 and we were wanting for him to get LASIK for his birthday. Do any of you gals have any recommendations for us? We are seriously looking at Carter Eye Center but I want the best for him, kinda nervous about it. I appreciate any help or advice. TIA

Re: Newbie with a LASIK question

  • I had mine done in 2007 at Clearview Eyecare and Laser Center in Southlake. I highly recommend them! The doctors have tons and tons of experience and they are all SO friendly and helpful.

Is Carter the one at Walnut Hill and Greenville?  If so, that's where my mom had hers and she had a wonderful experience.

  • Carter is off of 75 by Mockingbird. I am going to hunt down the one you are talking about. I will also look up the one in Southlake. Were there any side effects to the procedure? When I googled Lasik of course all of the horror story/worse case scenario websites popped up and now I am scared :( Thank you guys for your help!
  • My mom didn't have any side effects.  She had hers done when she was much older than your husband though.
  • I went to Booth because everyone I know had it done there and I have a friend that works for him. I had a great experience with him- alot of people dont know but the price for Lasik is negotatable- they wanted to charge around 4900 hundred and by the end I think I paid 2,800. Also there are side effects no one tells you about- your eyes are red like they look blood shot for two weeks and some people have really dry eyes and need to put in drops all the time for the first month or so but I didnt experience that. Also, they give you something like valium but its like . 05 and doesnt really work and I am super sensitive to meds- if I had to do it again I would taken something on my own before like others do.
  • I did LASIK in July 2012 and went to 3 seperate doc consultations before I ever decided to really do it. I also really wanted a Friday or Weekend Appointment so I had the weekend to recover but also didnt want to rush into the procedure due to my eyes being so precious. I was -5.00.  1st Appointment) Kleinmen Evangalista in Arlington and Plano. I went to the Plano location, and the staff was not too nice, very snobby, only the eye doctor was professional. I called and called for Friday Appointments they could not accomodate me, so I said screw that. Second Appt) Eye care specialist off Hillcrest and 635, they were not doing intralasik so I left and didnt have doctors I heard of or had reviews online. 3rd Appointment) Dr. Tylock - BEST PLACE - they answered all of my quetions such as how big is the laser going to touch my eye - 5 to 6MM, they had instralasik with a femtosecond laser, and they had Wednesday evening pre-consultant appoint at 5:30PM, Friday evening Lasik appointment at 5:30PM, AND they were the most affordable at $2800. Dr. Tylock also did my grandmother's cataract surgery so he seemed like a well rounded doctor. My brother went to Dr. Booth and he said that was the best money he ever spent.
