Good places to purchase restaurant gift cards?

I would like to purchase a restaurant gift card for a family friend as a token of thanks for some work he helped us with (and won't accept money).  I know there are some websites out there where you can buy giftcards at a discount.  Does anyone have any recommendations for a reputable site?

  • Not sure about websites, but I buy gift cards at Costco.  You can usually get deals like 2 $50 gift cards for $80, etc.

  • I've never used any of the sites, but I would imagine most of them are fairly reputable. We usually just buy gift cards at our local Kroger store when they're doing a 4x fuel points promotion, so we don't save on the card itself, but we do save a fair amount on gas as a result.

  • I use Cardpool.com. It's been great so far, and depending on the restaurant, you could get a great deal. The other way we get a good deal on gift cards is by using my Discover card cashback. I can get a gift card for $25 by using $20 of my cashback--which is basically free, because that's just 1% off my purchases.
  • I would buy from our Giant Eagle because every $50 in card purchases I get 20 cents per gallon off.
  • I use my rewards points to get gift cards off their website.

  • I like restaurants.com- you get discounted gift cards for local restaurants (no chains) but you always owe money at the restaurant. For instance $20 when you spend $25, so you would want to also give some cash to cover that when you spend part, or it's not a really good gift.
