Postpartum Food Sensitivities

Anyone else notice any changes in what you can/can't eat after baby? I used to be slightly sensitive to milk, and could handle it a lot better while pregnant, and now postpartum I am much more sensitive to it. I may even say I've become fully lactose intolerant. Sorry if this topic has been talked about already. I'll blame mommy brain. Lol ;)

Re: Postpartum Food Sensitivities

  • Hmmm the only issues I have had have been with heartburn. I never had it before pregnancy and now I have to think about what I eat because it might give me heartburn.

Maybe you will go back to somewhat tolerating milk again when you stop breastfeeding but I know that is still a ways out.

  • @teacherlady79 That sounds just like me. I have IBS as well. It sucks...Right now I'm just taking Lactaid pills with anything dairy. It seems to be helping.

@wiggylilsis That's a good point. I know my IBS has always been hormone related, and I never had a problem with milk until I started my period, so maybe it'll be better after BF.

  • I have IBS as well, and ended up going on Lexapro for PP anxiety. My psych was like, also, there are studies to show that SSRIs (that class of depression meds) also help IBS. Which it did!!

(I know that was probably incredibly not useful, I just wanted to throw that in since I know the IBS part)

  • @pb&fluff That is really interesting. I didn't know those would affect IBS. Good to know!

  • Yep! I also have IBS and didn't have any issues before being pregnant. It is so bad that I'm on medication for it. You may want to make an appointment with your PCP if it continues to bother you. The medicine really helped me.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one. I just always heard a lot of issues got better after pregnancy, mine all seem worse.
