Hey, speaking of baby showers...

edited January 2014 in GP Moms
I'm guessing this is the new trend?

ETA: I think its nice to throw a congratulations shower, but a baby shower for the grandma? I'm not sure I like that part of the idea.

  • I know my Aunt's work threw her one. It was just something small in the office, she didn't ask for it.

  • Seriously. The gift grabbiness and AW culture is so off putting. I don't even know what I would say if this happened in my family... No. Just, no.

See I can see that's okay, something small, she didn't ask for it.

  • We threw a lady I work with a small shower type thing when she first became a grandma. It was just an excuse to have a potluck and buy her a few things that grandmas should have at their house.

  • I hate the way people called pregnant women "preggo." I'm not a friggin' pasta sauce, thank you very much!!

    And the rest of it?

I think it's okay if it's a small thing that coworkers or friends of the grandma throw, but it shouldn't be something that's expected.

ETA And I'm thinking more of a "congrats you're a grandma were having a potluck/going out for drinks" not "here's a bunch of gifts that may never get used to keep at your house".

  • No, no, no, no no.  Nope.  I don't see this ever being ok.  If the mom wants things at grandma's house, she can buy them or put them on her own registry.

  • [-X I've ever heard of that, but it's totally ridiculous.  I can see celebrating,  but to have a "shower" way crazy.

  • Yea, I think this is a bit weird and slightly narcissistic if future Grandma is expecting someone to throw a shower in her honor. The shower is reserved for the mom-to-be, not the grandparents.
  • I think it's rather presumptuous of the Gma to expect something like this. I would lol if someone did this for my MIL because C won't be over there enough to justify her having stuff at her house full time.
Some ladies at my moms work (that I don't even know) bought C gifts and gave them to mom, but they are for C not for mom. My mom has a pack and play at her house and that's not even just for C but because they do foster care.
The only person who has stuff for C besides us is DH Gma who is going to be our sitter. And she bought it all for herself.

Culture now is so entitled and gift grabby..
    Geeze.

  • @teacherlady79 I think your MIL should be the exception and get her own party so she can chill out and stop causing drama with the real baby shower. I'm sorry your mom can't come. :(
