THE house

Many of you have seen my posts regarding our roller coaster journey with THE house.  But as of this afternoon, pending any issues at inspection, the seller finally agreed to our terms!  We are still negotiating the appliances - since they took a lesser sale amount, they want to now take the brand new, already installed kitchen appliances, but we may increase our offer by $1500 to entice them to leave them.  Hoping that works so we don't have to go appliance shopping.

Sad part is that I decided to start our taxes tonight to see what kind of refund we would get to put towards decorating/furnishing and apparently my husband's old company (he switched jobs in March), royally screwed up and at his new job, his current W4 must also be screwed up because it looks like we will be owing this year. :(  BOO!!  If only we could file as single people because my W2 and student loan interest has us getting a boatload of a refund.

Re: THE house

  • Congrats on the almost new house, @simsk3887! FX that everything is good with inspection and that you get to keep the appliances! Bummer about the taxes. We're planning to start working on ours tonight, and I'm a little nervous! Can't wait to see a pic of the new place!

  • Woohoo on that house; that's so exciting!  FX the owners leave the appliances.

Owing on taxes really sucks.  We usually owe every year and last year the guy at H&R Block said it was because we 'made too much'....I wanted to punch him in the face.

  • Yay and congrats! I hope you can work out the appliances. I'm no help on the taxes, but I hope you don't end up owing too much, that stinks =/

     ~ S & L 8-25-12  ~
  • @mrsvedo - I tried testing out the 'married filing separately' but it didn't help much.  I was hoping that only putting in my info would make us get the refund on me and then have to only owe on his, but apparently you don't get the same tax credits and such if you file separately without a reason (i.e. unemployment, itemizations for one spouse, etc.)

So on a not so fun house note, our realtor asked what the seller would price the appliances at.  I'm not sure why she did it because we didn't care what they priced them at, we just wanted to offer a little more.  Now I'm sure it's going to cause issues because they know that we know the amount.  Arg!
