Who has sofa/slip covers?

Hello!
Just wondering who has used sofa slip covers before? We are going to get a new sofa set soon, and I think we are just immediately going to purchase slip covers for them.
I am a "clean freak" here and there, and the concept of covering my sofas with something I can remove and wash occasionally makes me feel better. I think about sofas and how you can't necessarily "wash" them, and how gross the arms/backs/cushions get overtime.
We have two cats too, so their hair and nastiness can occasionally get washed off too. They also scratch at our sofas (you may have read a previous post of mine) so I'm hoping the slip cover can take most of the damage and not the sofa underneath.
What slip covers have you used or recommend?
Thank you! :)

Re: Who has sofa/slip covers?

  • It will run you about $75 for a decent one that washes well. I've had luck with the ones they sell at Target - the Sure Fit brand. Just make sure that you get one that is machine washable and that the fabric is a tight knit so that your cats don't scratch right through this to your new furniture.
  • I have Ikea sofas that are slip covered. Love that I can wash them/buy new and change the look of the sofa.

Love slipcovers! We had them for a hand-me-down sofa when we first got married. They were a heavy tapestry/brocade fabric and held up wonderfully! We now have an ikea ektorp, and one of my goals for tomorrow is to wash the slipcovers. With 4 kids and 2 dogs....it's a must for me.

Ps. We've bought slipcovers from Overstock.com as well as target in the past.
