I ended up finishing this in less than 24 hours, which is saying a lot, but I wasn't prepared for how dark it was. (Not that I don't recommend it. Just be ready for copious amounts of violence, murder, rape, etc.) I can totally see this being a movie franchise--in fact I'll bet $10 that this series becomes the Next Big Thing. In a nutshell, the MC is a downtrodden underdog who attempts to destroy his overlords by infiltrating their ranks and becoming one of them. He ends up in an academy of sorts, and at least half the book involves war games and tactical maneuvers (some of which I struggled to follow, but I just rolled with it.) It's the first in a series and ends in a slight cliffy. Not sure how many books are to come.
I disagree with the publisher's comparisons to Hunger Games and Ender's Game. Red Rising is much darker than either of those. I'm guessing that Game of Thrones fans will enjoy it. I'm curious to hear what you guys think, so I'll be on the lookout for other posts on this topic.
Re: WIJFR: Red Rising (ns)
How many stars did you give it?
Do you think you will read the second one when it comes out?
