No travel advisory.

MODOT has issued a no travel advisory for tomorrow because we have a storm moving in.
Why was I off tomorrow and have to work 13 hour days the next 2 days?!
I know our patients need treatments, and most of them are crazy enough to come in. But it really risks everyone involved safety to be out and about.
Anyone else getting bad weather tomorrow?

Re: No travel advisory.

  • I think that storm is supposed to head north east, and we're supposed to get it.
Yesterday they were saying 8-16 inches. Now they're saying 2-4.  Hopefully that's correct.

    Stay safe.

We got bad weather today and I still made it into work.  I had to go 30-40mph the entire way so I didn't slide off the mountain during my hour long commute (today it took an hour and 45 minutes) but shit still needs to get done...the world doesn't stop because of some nasty weather, people just need to be extra careful and allow for more time.

    Be safe tomorrow!!!

  • We got about 8 inches to a foot of snow today. Tomorrow is supposed to be okay until late evening and then we are getting the next system, which is supposed to be up to a half inch of ice and 1-4 inches of snow. I would much rather have snow than ice...then al Roker said that there is another storm coming Sunday into Monday which could bring feet of snow. Ugh!!

    Stay safe!

  • Be careful if you have to go out for work!

We had to go in to work today, but they notified everyone around 10:45 that we'd be closing at 2 (which I think was ridiculous, since it was just getting worse and worse outside and it didn't make sense for people to stay 3 more hours and THEN deal with the snow). My boss told us to just skip lunch and we could leave earlier. My car got stuck trying to get out of my parking spot on the street at the train station (thanks snow plow!) and again trying to get into my driveway (thanks again, snow plow!!).

They're calling for more bad weather tomorrow night into Wednesday, although I haven't checked out exactly what's expected. I'll be working from home tomorrow, so no worries about travel here, thank goodness!

  • We are supposed to get more snow Friday to Saturday I think. Or maybe it was Saturday to Sunday. I'm not sure. I am so over snow. The farmers almanac says we are supposed to get the biggest snow storm ever in March. So far the farmers almanac has been right about snow this year, so I guess we will see!
  • That's funny BEB.  My dad swears by the Farmers Almanac (he's a farmer), and it's been correct the past 5 years.

  • The Farmers Almanac is always right! I also go by persimmon seeds. My mom said that they had the biggest spoons she had ever seen, which means snow, and so far we have had more snow than usual.

For a run down- if you bust open persimmon seeds in the fall there will either be a fork, spoon or knife.
    Fork- mild winter
    Spoon- snow (shoveling)
Knife- ice (chipping ice with a knife)
It's always proven correct for our family.
  • It seems to depend on who you ask, but right now Accuweather is predicting 7 inches this afternoon through this evening. We'll see if I make it to work tomorrow morning...

  • BEB, that's really interesting; I've never heard that about persimmon seeds!

We got a couple inches yesterday and are supposed to get 12-18 inches starting late tonight into tomorrow.  I hope it starts early enough for me to decide whether or not to come in to work. Weatherman says it's a fast moving storm so even if it's not that bad in the morning it could turn ugly fast and I could get stuck at work.  No thank you! The way I see it, my job isn't that important.  Me not being in the office doesn't affect anyone but me. I'm not saving lives; nothing is so important that it can't wait an extra day.

I could have written this, word for word, right down to the persimmon seeds. Interesting!

Stay safe, anyone who makes the call to be out and about tomorrow!
  • I'm really ticked off about this because I am salaried and my boss told me if I don't come in tomorrow I either, take one of my measly vacation days/no pay/or make it up on Saturday.
How is that fair?? I'm in the accounting dept! There is no need for me to risk my life to get here in a storm!

Oh yeah.  If I don't come in I still have to use PTO.  It really annoys me, but whatever; I need a mental health day anyway. We hand in our hours for the week (yes, I'm salaried, but they still make us submit our hours every week) on Tuesdays, so I'm kind of hoping if I do stay home that my boss just forgets to update my time. :-)

I guess I'm more aggravated because my bosses wife and mom are in the accounting office with me and if they're not in they still get their salaried check without any deductions. JUST NOT COOL!

  • I'm waiting to play tomorrow by ear. If we get notice of late opening or the office being closed, awesome. If not and everything is really iced over when I'd go to leave for work, I'll probably tell my boss I'm working from home and I'll be in the office on Thursday (instead of going in tomorrow and working from home like I normally do on Thursday). If she has any problems with it, I'll just use a sick day, but she's usually really good about stuff like that.

  • I think we are in the 8-12 range, starting ad snow, late tonight, but turning to a lovely ice/snow mix overnight. Ughhh.

My boss had the 'bring work home' conversation a bit ago, but none of my work can be done at home. I am also the only salaried person, besides herself. So.. ... .. I am not sure what that means for pay. I am sure I will make it in at some point, even if it's just late afternoon, in which case I shouldn't have to use time.

I love that she trusts me to make good decisions and do what I have to do. I mean, it's awesome to be treated like an adult at work! It's been a while!
