  • LOL....DH and I were joking the other day. Never thought we'd have to come.down to Middletown to shop and eat. There wasn't much when we lived down here.

  • I was just saying the other day that I used to have to go to rt.40 for everything. I drove up that way the other day and I have no clue what any of the stores are now because I really don't have to leave Middletown to do anything. I love it, but I do feel like the area is being turned in to something completely different with all this growth and people.

Was that not the best thing in history? We didnt have to go all the way to Smyrna to go to McDonalds!! Im still super sad that Uncle Mike's is gone. I would have loved taking my kids there.

Yes, McDonalds opening truly was a great day!  Since I only went to HS in MTown and never actually lived south of the canal I don't think I ever went to Uncle Mikes, but I do remember hearing all about it...does suck to not be able to carry on a summer tradition with your own family though.  Kind of how I'm sad that my children will never be able to drink at the Stone Balloon in college like my Mom and I both did lol

It just happens to be the same name and they sell icecream. Nothing else is the same. Uncle Mikes used to be this little icecream stand in the middle of a field (across from where Walgreens on 301 is now) that seemed to only be staffed by cheerleaders and high school band members. It was where our coaches always took us after baseball games.  It was all soft serve ice-cream. Sundae's and banana split and all the fixins. Then you sat either in the grass or on picnic tables. Im pretty sure they eventually also served hot dogs and fries and stuff like that too. It was wonderful.
