Maternity Clothes...

Hi Ladies! I just have a question for all of you. I'm sorry in advance if someone has asked this before. I tried searching and couldn't find anything.

So I've invested in some maternity clothes, but haven't really worn them yet. I went to wear a pair of pants yesterday and they fit comfortably. My worry is they won't last very long before they don't fit. I'm 14 weeks and a couple of days. My regular clothes fit with a band, but it can get uncomfortable, so I was going to start wearing the comfy maternity stuff.

Anyway.. my question is- When you bought your maternity clothes, did you buy your size just in maternity or did you go up a size? I'm okay with shirts I think, it's the pants I'm worried about. I haven't seen much change in my butt and legs, but I know it's still early.

Thanks in advance!! :)

Re: Maternity Clothes...

  • I bought my normal size.  I am still wearing what I bought at week 17 for tops (week 9 for pants), but I'm not gonna lie - you get to a point where even that maternity band is uncomfortable.

I must have gained in my ass and thighs because the pants I bought at 12w are tight on me.  Granted...they didn't have a lot of extra room in them when I bought them.  I have another two pairs I got from my co-worker that fit more comfortably now and were a bit big when I originally got them from her.

Pretty much all of my tops are still working just fine.  I got a couple long sleeve cotton t-shirts from Motherhood Maternity for Christmas and I think my SIL just bought them a size too small because they're a bit short for my bump.

ETA:  The work pants I bought at 12w still fit just fine.  Only the jeans are tight.

  • I bought the same size.  I haven't gained weight in my legs/butt yet so hopefully everything will still fit for a while! I started wearing maternity clothes pretty early. I figure everything is so friggin expensive; I'm going to wear them as long as I can!

  • Shirts were all the same size as pre-pregnancy, I normally wore a M bottom and those were fine in maternity, but if the pants were a number size, I had to go up a size thanks to my thighs and hips getting larger.

  • Thanks for the feedback ladies!! I really appreciate it. I think I'll keep what I have and see how it goes. I don't want to have to buy all over again, but it seems like I should be ok with my regular size for awhile. It's hard to predict how I 'might' grow, but I guess I'll find out soon enough!

  • I bought a size up only because I was at the upper limit in regular clothes in my current size so I wanted to be sure they would fit/have extra room to grow in.

  • I didnt wear a ton of pants while pregnant, but the skirts I purchased definitely got tighter as I got bigger. I was amazed at how much I gained in my hips and ass, even with exercising through pregnancy.

  • All my maternity clothes I bought were my regular size and they fit all the way through to the end. They were a little tighter at the end, but I could still wear them.
