WIJFR: Out of my Mind by Sharon Draper (make note moms)- NS
Ashlee asked me to read this book. They had just read it in class. How can I expect her to be excited about my book recommendations, if I am not equally open to her suggestions?I am so glad she asked me to read this. I went into it not having any idea what it was about (for those who want to know, it is about a young girl who has cerebral palsy and it confined to a wheelchair. She cannot speak on her own. Yet she has an Eidetic Memory and is brilliant. But she can't communicate with anyone to tell them that). The basis of the book is how others judge people by how they look.
I highly recommend this book for young readers. The writing was wonderful for the age group it is meant for (8-12 year olds) and I think the premise is very thought provoking and can really be used to open dialog with your child about how we shouldn't judge others. There was quite the range of emotions in the story too.
I am so glad she had me read this. Between this book, and Fever 1793- that's two books I never would have experienced if my kid's hadn't tried to share their love of reading with me!
(all together- aww!)

She is the funniest thing reading though. She does voices for everyone. Maybe I should start looking into her recording audiobooks for a living! She's great at it!
