I just need to share this somewhere, and I know you ladies will understand how this felt to us. I would share it on my blog, but we've decided it's something we wouldn't want our families knowing about and a few of them read my blog.
Last night BIL came over for dinner. He asked us if we were still TTC or if we were persuing any assistance again. We told him that we are just letting things be for right now and aren't planning to get assistance again for a while. He responded with this, "well I don't know exactly what your issues are but I just want to let you know that if you ever need donor sperm I'm willing to do what I need to in order to help." We let him know that wasn't part of the issue, but we appreciated it and love that if we were ever to need it, our child would have the same genes that H would pass on.
Then I called my best friend to do our weekly chat. She knows every single detail about our losses, struggles, and plans. I told her what BIL had said, and she told me that she was wanting to wait until I'm in Cali next week to tell me in person but she'll tell me while we're on the topic. Her and her husband had a long discussion and she's willing to help us out with donor eggs or be a surrogate if it is needed. Their family is complete to them, and they would love to help us to complete ours.
Neither one of these things are something we've ever thought about needing or persuing if we had to, and H has been a bit against either option from the start. But just knowing that BIL and my BF have been thinking about these things and are willing to help us create our family, makes us feel so much more hopeful for our future and options. I'm not shocked by this offer from my BF, it's something she's hinted at here and there. But BIL is a year younger than me, still lives with MIL, and doesn't have many aspirations for his life and future. He also isn't the most giving person and is pretty selfish. So we know this had to have taken him a lot of thinking and a long time to build up the courage to talk to us about it.
