Bella Bands

Those of you who are farther along/have done this before...did you use one? did you like it? Did you get the name brand one or an off brand one, were they similar? I'm only 5w5d, but some days my pants and I already have issues (I must have drank enough water yesterday because my pants fit great today, yay!) so I was thinking of buying one. It says it extends the life of your regular pants, then adds support and covers the maternity pant band later, then helps transition back to regular pants? So far I've been loving my long tank tops, so if in the afternoon I rubberband the button it's not obvious. So tell me your thoughts on bella bands and similar products. Is it worth it?

Re: Bella Bands

  • I had a bella band, and hated it. I felt like it was always rolling down, or bunching up and was just not  comfortable. I ended up just wearing longer shirts/tanks, and unbuttoning my pants until I switched to maternity.

  • I love my belly band! I just got one from Target, and it works great. Depending on the outfit, I'll wear it full-panel style over regular pants (unbuttoned), folded over my regular (unbuttoned) jeans, or over maternity pants since they're still a little big. It's been really comfortable! Highly recommend. I could have been wearing it from the start, it's way better than the rubber band trick IMO because it has a smoother look and you don't have to worry about the rubber band falling off or anything.

  • I didn't use one.  I just started wearing maternity pants and dealt with them being a little big. It helped if I wore a longer tank top to kid of keep them tighter. I know I've said this before, but maternity clothes are so expensive; I'm gonna wear the sh*t out of 'em!

  • I had one and only liked it during third tri when my bump was bigger. I used it with my pre-pregnancy shorts because I only had one pair of maternity.

I hated it before that because it moved up into my waist and it hurt during first tri and early second tri to have anything constricting on my belly.

So, I would get one and try it, knowing you may not use it until later, but that you also may love it now.

  • I have the Target version and really like it. I never liked doing the rubber band because it never looked smooth under my clothes. In the beginning I'd wear it folded down over my unbuttoned pants. Now that I fill it out a little better I've been wearing at as a full panel. Even at 14.5 weeks I can still wear my pre-pregnancy jeans and just have them undone with the band. Definitely worth the investment IMO. I just bought one from Motherhood (almost the same price as Target) in black, but I haven't tried it yet. I do like how the Target version comes in sizes though.

  • I really think this depends on your body type. I had a Belly Band and hated it. It was always rolling down, and I was constantly trying to discreetly adjust it. I was so much more comfortable when I switched to maternity pants at like 10 weeks. I have heard other people rave about it, though, so like I said... I really think it just depends on how it fits you.

  • I just rubberbanded my pants til I got maternity pants.  I'm cheap like that.

  • I had one from Target and it was okay but it rolled down a lot. I found the best thing to do was wear it under my pants and then fold it over the top of my pants. But maternity pants were better. Sometimes when my maternity pants didn't fit well I'd use the bella band to reinforce them. I spent most of my pregnancy pulling up my pants.

Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
  • I had the target one and hated it - it never ever stayed put. That said, it worked until I could find mat pants. The rubber band trick NEVER work. They always flung off and landed in the toilet...and after loosing 3-4 hair ties, I quit.
Congrats to my TTC buddy Madeline! Cheering for all the strong 3T ladies!

  • I had one. I used it for 2 weeks then switched to maternity plans, they are so much better. The rubber band trick did work for me.

  • I found my belly band more useful after birth than during my pregnancy.  I lost weight very quickly and was in between sizes so I used the belly band during that time.
