Trying to add to our few posts today!

Are you giving your kids anything for Vday? If so what?

Does your kid get to celebrate at school (what are they passing out?) I ask because our school apparently does no holiday stuff even Vday and it bums me out!!'

What are you getting dh if you exchange gifts?

Any Vday plans?

Re: Valentines day poll

  • I like to get something for dd. my mom always did growing up and I loved that! The last 2 years we've been on vacation and have giben her souvenirs. this year I am giving her the Frozen chapter book. Probably another chapter book and some candy or cookies

Per my OP dd's school does nothing. I can understand to an extent but makes me sad. I thought it was a district policy but found out at least 1 other elementary celebrates holidays so it must just be our school! Dd exchanged with her close friends over the weekend so at least she got to do some. She did Frozen pencil ones!

I think I will get some Mrs. Fields Vday cookies for dh. He wants a "gaming chair" so I think I'm offering to get him that as a present. We usually just do small things around Vday but its also 10 years since we got engaged so I wanted to do something more this year.

We actually get to go out on a date. It's a small miracle!!! Dd's old daycare is doing a parents night out on Vday. A couple of her friends from there have younger siblings that still go there so that's how we found out. Daycare said that some of the old kids could come too so we signed up dd. I think we will just do dinner and a movie? We haven't been out on Vday in probably forever! I have no idea about trying to make reservations, etc so I have to look into that.

  • Are you giving your kids anything for Vday? If so what? we usually give them something small (they got books last year, i think) so this post is an excellent reminder that i should grab something this weekend (when did it get to be mid-february already??)

Does your kid get to celebrate at school (what are they passing out?) I ask because our school apparently does no holiday stuff even Vday and it bums me out!!' Yes, they pass out cards and have a party.

What are you getting dh if you exchange gifts? we don't exchange gifts.

Any Vday plans? none for that day, but I might see if my mom can babysit that saturday so that we can go out to dinner.

  • I don't plan on getting the boys anything, unless I happen to see something cute in the Target Dollar Spot.  Mostly because December was Christmas, January was Garrett's b-day, and March is Mason's b-day....so I'd prefer if February could be no more new sh!t in my house month.  (unless it's for me, haha!)

Yes, they celebrate at daycare.  I usually give something in addition to a Valentine, but haven't had any ideas yet this year, so I'm not sure what we'll do.

We don't acknowledge Valentines Day as a couple because we don't need no stinkin Hallmark holiday to express our love to one another!!!!!  J/K, just reliving a Nest debate in years past. ;)  We don't exchange gifts, but DH usually gets me flowers.

We have a traditional V-Day dinner of lobster pasta.

DD picked out princess valentines, but I still have to get something to put with it.

She is having a Valentine party at school, but no parents allowed.

We give the girls each a small gift.  And I have 2 small things left from Christmas that I didn't give them. So I don't have to buy anything.  Score!

Dh and I don't exchange gifts

So far the only Valentine's day plans I have is a trip to the ob/gyn.  Nothing says romance like a trip to the gyno.

  • Meghan thanks for the reminder of the good old Nest debate!!!

Just because we celebrate Vday does not mean we don't show our love at other times if the year!!!

We technically got engaged on Feb 13th and always celebrate that day so we actually are not celebrating Vday! Ha!

  • LOL at the good ol' nestie debate!!

can I be a v-day grinch for a minute?  When did it become such a production?  when I went to buy cards for the kids last weekend, they almost all had some type of crap that went along with them.  My kid does not need another eraser, so i'm sure no one else does, too.

They really all are with stuff now!! The only frozen ones had pencils.

I will say I'd rather her get a pencil than tons of candy. Daycare parents were out of control last couple years. One small thing of candy, fine. But a lot of the parents made up treat bags with multiple candy. Multiply that by the whole room and it was like Halloween!

  • Are you giving your kids anything for Vday? If so what?  I usually give them something little from me. A book, some candy, just something small.

Does your kid get to celebrate at school (what are they passing out?) I ask because our school apparently does no holiday stuff even Vday and it bums me out!!'  Yes, both in the elementary school and at daycare.

What are you getting dh if you exchange gifts?  We're going away as a family that weekend, so I don't plan on getting him anything.   Usually I get him something little and a card.  And he usually buys me something nice.  I'm the sucky partner!  HA!

Any Vday plans?  We are going away  so we don't have plans to go out just the two of us.  We might do something in a few weeks and call it "Valentine's Day", it's a good excuse to have a date!
  • With three family birthdays the week before V-day, it basically gets ignored. We don't give the kids anything or exchange presents. I might make something that I know DH really likes for dinner since I don't usually cater to his preferences unless I feel like it, :-)

T is exchanging cards with his classmates for sure, and I assume H is, too. Given all of the crafts I'm doing for H's birthday party this weekend, they will be both giving store bought Valentines. :-)

  • Are you giving your kids anything for Vday? If so what? I may give them candy, but likely no toys.  My mom will send them something in the mail.

Does your kid get to celebrate at school (what are they passing out?) They're having a party at school and passing out valentines.  DD decided on Junie B. Jones valentines.  I also ordered a set of pencils, pencil sharpeners, stamps, etc. from Oriental trading company  to make treat bags for her class.  It seems that the other parents go out every holiday and I usually feel like a heel.  So the pressure got to me.  Even though I typically hate all of the junk she gets and it slowly makes it's way into the trash when no one is looking

What are you getting dh if you exchange gifts? We typically do, but just talked about this last night and decided we'd rather save the money.  So we're not doing gifts.

Any Vday plans? Not specifically for V-day.  Coincidentally we're going out the Saturday after on a double date as we're trying to hook our babysitter up with my cousin.  Hopefully cupid strikes :-P

  • I got EJ a sleeping bag. Cause she wanted one, and I woudl have bought it anyway. So I just decided to make it a gift.
She is giving out kitty valentine cards that come with a tattoo, and I got a bag of candy.
DH and I don't do anything, or give gifts.

confession, I threw away like 15 pencils over the summer because there was no reason she needed 15 unsharpened pencils in her art box. at least candy gets eaten and goes away.

Noah's teacher always suggests pencils/erasers as an alternate to candy and I always think that if he brings home one more pencil I'm going to scream!   We probably have enough pencils that we'll never need another until the day I die.  We also have a lot of crayons...so my policy is that if I find a stray crayon that doesn't get put away with the others, it automatically goes in the garbage.
  • Heather got a battery powered pencil sharpener for Christmas, so un sharpened pencils are now a way to keep kids occupied around here. :-)

I also steal some of their pencils for my office at home and at work. :-)

We also throw away pencils since they never get sharpened, so I see no point in hoarding them. I also can't trust Garrett with a piece of sidewalk chalk, much less a sharpened pencil.

Confession: we have very few pencils!! I always thought it was odd when kids would give them away when dd was younger because she didnt need them! But now that she is in school and has homework she is using some of the old ones she was given! I swear we are always struggling to find a pencil for homework. She didnt need to buy any for school supplies so I didn't grab any at first. Then I tried to buy some to have at home and I swear everybody was flipping sold out of pencils!! I need to go look again now that we are passed the school supply rush!

I will say that the frozen ones for Vday are terrible! I was going to have her use the leftover ones but they are bad!!

I don't mind some candy but she always gets so much and then will buy me all the time to have some!!

DD is way into stickers right now and the Dollar Tree by my work at Doc McStuffins, Minnie and Sofia the First sticker books for $1 each. Score! I think I'll also get her an Eat n Park heart shaped smiley cookie because I'm a nerd that way:)

Does your kid get to celebrate at school (what are they passing out?) I ask because our school apparently does no holiday stuff even Vday and it bums me out!!'
Yes, there will be a party at her daycare. I need to hit up Target for whatever we're giving out - I think last year I did little Valentine's packs of goldfish crackers, so something along that line (there's a kiddo with a peanut allergy in her class, so I try to be careful of what I send for her friends).

What are you getting dh if you exchange gifts?
We don't exchange. We used to go to White Castle on Valentine's Day as a joke (an incredibly cheap fast food place if anyone is unfamiliar). I think we did sweet gifts our first year and that was it.

    Any Vday plans?
We're going to be visiting family that weekend, so nothing really. We might try to meet up with an old friend and his new wife, but that's about it.
  • Are you giving your kids anything for Vday? If so what? My mom still gives us gifts, usually candy and a gift card to starbucks.

I am getting him a backpack tool box. Yeah, I am romantic! ;)

    Any Vday plans?
I will probably make dinner. We close on our old house the following Friday (fingers crossed) so that weekend will be spent getting everything out of it.

  • @Luckystar2, I will send you some in the mail.  In fact, we have about 10 leftover princess ones from Halloween.   I am serious, I would love to give them to you!   With 2 boys, those will be the last pencils they'd ever pick to use.

I have a huge jar of un-sharpened pencils, but I figure once the kids start school they'll be of use.  I am also a huge nerd who loves any sort of office supplies.

I got him some robot stickers, a little wooden car, and some of those magic towel things that grow in the bath tub. He loves those. His birthday is at the end of this month, so I didn't want to get him much.

Does your kid get to celebrate at school (what are they passing out?) I ask because our school apparently does no holiday stuff even Vday and it bums me out!!'
He'll have a little party at the sitters. I bough the kids some fun little treats.

What are you getting dh if you exchange gifts?
I got him one of those pictures that spell your name out of architectural elements. We've bought them for just about everyone we know that got married and I know he really likes them. We don't typically do gifts for vday, so I'm not expecting anything. I bought it b/c there was a great groupon for it.

    Any Vday plans?
Nope. His dad is having surgery on 2/17, so he's most likely going to NY around that time.

  • Are you giving your kids anything for Vday? If so what? I got Jackson a Seat Pet. He's been asking for one, and Target had them on clearance for $5. I'm going to get Michael something as well, I'm just not sure what yet.

Does your kid get to celebrate at school (what are they passing out?) I ask because our school apparently does no holiday stuff even Vday and it bums me out!! Last year Jackson's school didn't do anything, and they don't do anything for Halloween or Christmas, so I was really surprised when his teacher asked for us to make boxes and gave instructions on Valentines. She also asked for treats/crafts. I'm making heart shaped sugar cookies and sending in squeeze bottles with icing and sprinkles for the kids to decorate--his teacher is excited about that.

I made labels with Olaf's picture, and saying "HI! I'm Olaf and I like warm hugs!" and I"m putting a few hershey's hugs in a valentines bag with one of the labels for both boys to give out at school. Cheaper than buying valentines from the store :)

What are you getting dh if you exchange gifts? We don't exchange.

Any Vday plans? Does going to see Monster Jam count?
