Baby Clothes question....

I went through all of the clothes we've received for LO and it's crazy. I don't even know where to begin with what we'll need to get and what we'll need to take back. Thoughts? Here's the breakdown of just onesies and sleepers. We also have quite a few outfits, gowns/sleep sacks, shirts and pants. The main issue...most of the onesies are "special" ("I love my aunt!" etc.)

Onesies:
NB - 1
0-3m - 47
3-6m - 14
6-9m - 16
9m - 3
12+m - 15

Sleepers:
NB - 6
0-3m - 11
3-6m - 1
6-9m - 2
12m - 0
18m - 1

ETA:  I don't plan on getting a lot of NB stuff because if LO is anything like me and DH, he won't fit into them.  I plan to get a couple more sleepers in NB but not take the tags off.

Re: Baby Clothes question....

  • I had the same issue with Lexi - so many onsies and pajamas. I decided to keep them all, pretty much for less laundry (I did her laundry every two weeks). With the way babies spit up, you can never have too many onsies, etc. It seems like an overkill with 47, maybe I would reduce it a little, but you can always pair the shortsleeve onsies with a long sleeve blouse underneath. This way you can use it as an outfit as you use it for an undershirt.

I would get a little more (like maybe 1 more set) of 3-6 onsies and a few more 3-6 mo and 6-9 mo sleepers.

  • My baby still wears nb stuff, and is slowly progressing into some 0-3mo. She is long but she is skinny so the 0-3mo is still too big. I wouldn't buy anymore 0-3mo. I'd probably exchange a few 0-3mo onsies, but i don't know what for. Maybe a few nb and a few 3-6mo. 47 is a lot.

  • What brands are the 47 0-3 month onesies? That will determine my answer. :)

  • even if the baby is a big spitter you won't need or go through 47 0-3 onesies. take half back. you'll be doing laundry every couple of days or so. we had probably half that amount of onesies and had so many that were either never worn or only worn once. such a waste.

return 5-7 of the 12m onesies and exchange for 9m. some have their boys out of onesies asap. i kept LO in them pretty much exclusively until he was just about 12m. he has a few now that he wears but it's mostly regular clothes now.

Most of the 47 onesies (all the onesies, really) are "special" onesies.  As in, SILs got him "I love my Aunt" ones that specifically say "New Orleans" on them from when they were in NOLA.  Or other things like that.  We have about 20-ish plain Gerber onesies.  I do plan on taking back 15 of those.  I'll keep a few long-sleeved ones and a few short-sleeved ones.  I figure the long-sleeved ones are good for his sleep-sacks.

I don't plan on doing laundry a couple times a week.  I'll do it once a week just like I do now.  So having a few more would be beneficial.

  • I would only worry about making sure you have enough NB and 0-3 clothes.

DS spent 2-3 months in NB and then 2-3 months in 0-3 month.

I only worry about buying for the next size up. So right now DS is in 3-6 month and I am buying 6-12 month stuff.

You don't know how big your LO will be or how fast they will grow and you don't want a whole bunch of put of season stuff. Plus you might get gifts later of bigger sizes.

  • Gerber runs small, so those 15 you might want to take back may actually be closer to newborn size. Could you hold them up to a newborn onesie to compare?

I would probably still take them back though and just get some cute newborn ones. I'm not a fan of gerber clothing. They all fit A weird.

  • Keep in mind that different brands will fit differently.  Gerber 0-3 is basically the same as Carter's NB.  Plus, you won't know how things will fit your baby.  Alex has always been tall and skinny, so he grows out of sleepers quickly because he has long legs, but can wear onesies a little longer, and shirts even longer.  I would make sure you have a couple of NB things in different brands washed and ready to go, and a couple of 0-3 things ready, again in different brands.  Just keep the tags on everything else until you see how things fit and how quickly LO grows.  You will probably do laundry every couple of days at first.  I returned a lot of things we got either because he grew too quickly, we had way too many small size things, or because they ended up being wrong season.

  • I had maybe 5 NB outfits, 3-4 sleepers and an additional 4-5 onesies. It was plenty!

For 0-3, I probably doubled the quantities for each.

  • I got SO many hand me downs. I probably have upwards of 50 newborn pieces and 50 0-3 months pieces. My problem is that they are all girl specific. Any new stuff we got we returned to get boy specific stuff but he still has no where near our daughters clothes. We are going to have a metro boy I guess ;)
