What was your boss's reaction...?

So I told my boss today that we were expecting and her reaction was very about thr business end of things. She did congratulate me, but considering she has her own kids and grandkids, I thought her reactiom would have been a little warmer. Just for background, I will be on leave during the fall, which is a busy time with back to scholl, but it's not like I planned it on purpose.

What kinds of reactions did you gals get?

Re: What was your boss's reaction...?

  • My coworkers were super excited, my boss was also but you could tell she was halfway congratulating me and halfway trying to figure out what she was going to do while I was on leave.

  • Both my boss and my immediate supervisor gave me a big hug when I told them. I've been here for a while though, so we've all gotten to know each other well.

    I hate saying "I'm pregnant!" so I said "Lexi is going to be a big sister." His reaction was "oh, that's great... what does that mean?" *face palm* So then I had to say "I'm pregnant...?" He was then happy for me, congratulated me and hugged me.

  • @LuckyAngel07 - I'm so glad you got a good reaction! I bet that's a great feeling!

    My boss was really cool about it, he's not an 'excitable' type of guy so I didn't expect much. But he told me congratulations and to let him know if I needed anything or had questions. I'm sorry your boss was so down to business! Hopefully she will soften up soon.

  • My boss was great! Then again, she also knew all about us seeing the RE, treatments, IUIs, etc. She was just so happy that it finally happened! :) She did also ask about if I planned on coming back to work after LO was born. There were definitely some work-related concerns/questions.

  • My main boss cried when I told him. lol. We're a very small, close nitch company, and he knew we had Dr's appointments we both had to go to. So he suspected we were persuing IF.

    My 2nd boss quietly squeeled, because he didn't know if my co-workers in that office knew yet.

  • My boss screamed and stomped her feet. She has a son, who she adopted, so one of the first things she said was, "I've never been pregnant, so whatever you need, doctor's appointments, not feeling well, whatever, let me know." It was kind of sad, but I know she was trying to be supportive.

  • My boss was like, "oh. Congratulations!" But, to be fair, I had only been in her building for maybe 3 weeks...gotta love involuntary transfers. And I think she was thinking, "crap, now I have to find a leave for a leave...and I don't even know what kind of a teacher she is!"

  • My boss knew about all my miscarriages, so he seemed genuinely happy for me and gave me a big hug and congratulations. He did ask me later what I planned on doing and when I told him I was 100% coming back to work, he seemed very relieved. LOL.

    @luckyangel07 glad it went well!

    I think my boss will be fine with everything and she did say she was happy for me. I probably should have noted that I had to tell her over the phone since I won't see her until our regional meeting in June. A lot gets lost when you're not face to face. I've been with the company for 2 years, but only working with my current boss for 6 months.

    ETA my coworkers are all women and are super excited. They are already planning to have a pool for the baby's birthday and the sex since we aren't finding out. I'm the fourth one of us to have a baby in 2 years so they're all new moms too.

  • I wouldn't call it a cold reaction, but it definitely wasn't warm. He just asked basics and that was it. My department head on the other hand, was very excited. Both are men.

  • I have a great relationship with my boss. He knew about our struggles and he was one of the first people I told when I got the call with my beta numbers after IVF (mostly because I was at work at the time). He was super happy for me.
