Goals a little derailed.

So the house my dad was trying to buy fell through, then we looked at a trailer to possibly buy, but because he wouldn't not be able to rent to others (besides family) that was a dead end.  So now I need to find an apartment, which means saving up money to move.  School now on back burner til ??.  And I was doing so good with debt pay off but now I need to be saving everything to get a place.  Though since I started last month my debt is now below $4k.

Re: Goals a little derailed.

  • Congrats on your debt payments! Have you been budgeting? Maybe there are areas to save in.
  • I'm sorry it didn't work out with your dad's place! On the bright side, you made some great debt progress and I'm sure you'll be right back to it after the move. Will you get your own place or live with roommates?

I'm feeling derailed from my goals right now too-it's a yucky feeling but I try to focus on the progress that is being made, even if small :)
  • I'm sorry too :(  when I moved back in with my parents I had a student loan and a car debt.  My plan was to pay off the car and then move into an apartment.  It would have been tight but doable. Then my plans changed as well.  If I were you I would finish paying off the debt and save to move out.

  • The furniture card (2600 balance) has a 0% interest until 2017 so not as worried about this one right now.  The MC has 1200 left to pay.  So I can still throw some money at it but now I need to focus on saving to move out.  Right now I have 700 in savings and going to use state tax return to go into savings (400).  Though my dad says I would be able to borrow a few thousand if I need to help move.  So should I instead put the 400 tax return on the MC?
  • If you need to move then you don't want to have to borrow money or it defeats the purpose of paying off the debt. Just save save save! Pay the minimums on the credit cards and just use the money you have to avoid going into more debt to move.

  • I was thinking that.  I told H that I would like to be out by June 1st.  Which is 4 months away.  If I work all possible overtime and put everything into savings I should have first, last and security covered.  My max possible rent I am looking at is $800/month.
