QOTD 2/10

I saw an advice column today where the person asked if it was okay to wear a piece of jewelry that an ex-boyfriend gave her.

What do you think? Would/do you wear jewelry that an ex gave you?

  • Hmm....I personally wouldn't, but I love the rosaries my ex-bf's family gave me (one was blessed at the Vatican, the other is made of rosewood and smells like roses) and I still use those.  I don't think there's anything too scandalous about wearing the old jewelry, but I prefer the stuff DH got me.

  • Non-issue - no ex gave me jewelry.  But I really don't see an issue, but I'm one to get rid of everything when the relationship ends... so I probably would have cash for gold it and got something else for myself haha.

  • I don't have anything from an ex.  I've never had a relationship end on good terms though, so I wanted to get rid of anything that reminded me of them.  I, don't really think it's appropriate to keep those kinds of things.
  • I think I might still have a few pieces from an ex, but I wouldn't wear them. I only have them because I forget about them until I'm cleaning out that area of my closet.

  • I think I have a small gold and diamond cross that my ex-H got me.  I have no idea where it is or if I still have it.  I wouldn't feel right wearing it.  Just looking at it reminded me of him, and that would always make me put it back in the drawer.

The only other piece he gave me was my wedding ring and that was sold on ebay as soon as I filed for divorce.

  • I wouldn't wear anything for an ex. Once both DH and I got divorced we were at the pawn shop selling all the jewelry.

  • I had a ring my ex gave me. DH and I sold it before the wedding to help pay for our wedding! he had also given me a couple inexpensive necklaces that aren't really my style. I would probably still wear them if I liked them.

  • I don't see an issue with it. If you like the jewlery, wear it! I prob wouldn't go advertising that someone other than DH got it for me though.  I also keep everything (that is a different problem though, haha)

Depends on what it is. A diamond ring? Probably not. Earrings or a necklace that you love? Sure why not. If your H is fine with it, then what's the big deal. It's a piece of jewelry, not a sordid affair.

  • Personally, I would feel weird wearing it. But, if it's something that you love and you don't have a problem with it, then I say wear it!

  • I kind of did. The necklace DH bought me when we first started dating broke one night after getting caught on a sweater. It would have cost more than the necklace itself to get the chain repaired. I still had a necklace an old bf gave me, so I stole the chain off of that and reused it.

  • I never had an ex give me jewelry, so I can't say for sure. I think it would depend on how things ended and what the piece of jewelry was. If you've kept it for sentimental value, no, I don't think it should be worn. If it was kept because you just really liked the jewelry, why not.

  • I have a ring my first serious bf gave me! I dont wear it because its yellow gold ( with a sapphire heart) I would wear it if it werent yellow gold!
  • I only have a piece or 2 of jewelry from HS boyfriends.  It's not my style anymore, I just never did anything with it.

The only adult boyfriend who gave me jewelry had a terrible break up.  I couldn't stand to look at it, so I gave it back.  Looking back, I should have kept it.  I would have made a decent amount of money with the price of gold.

I think it would be weird to wear jewelry from an ex.  I would definitely not wear it.

  • I think it's weird.  I personally wouldn't like my husband to have ANYTHING his ex gave him so I'm sure he'd feel the same about me wearing jewelry from someone else.

My mom actually kept a ring her ex boyfriend gave her when she was a teenager because it was pretty.  She never wore it though.

  • Non-issue because I've lost every piece of jewelry that was given to me by an ex.  LOL.  Probably wouldn't wear it anyway though.  Maybe that's why I lost it all!
