When Did You Tell Work?

I'm getting to the point that I'm dying to tell my boss(es) about being pregnant. Especially because we've just had position changes/promotions with a few key people in my department. There's a lot of workload juggling going on and settling into new rolls for those people, but they're still the ones I'd go to to let them know about being pregnant and taking maternity leave later this year.

So when did you spill the beans? If it helps at all, I work with a fantastic group of people who have always been very supportive and understanding.

  • I told my boss at 10 weeks and the rest of my department at 12 :) It was such a huge relief to get it out!

  • I told my boss when I was 5 or 6 weeks, but that's because I was with an RE and going in for b/w and u/s a few times those first couple weeks.  I didn't tell the other girls at work until I was closer to 10 or so weeks.  I couldn't hide my nausea.

  • I told my bosses at 10 weeks because it was right before Thanksgiving and I announced on Facebook then. My other coworkers found out after that then since I am friends with some of them on FB. Word has spread from there.

  • I told my boss after my 2nd appointment, so about 5-6 weeks. I told her only because I figured since I've been having doctors appointments every 2 weeks, it was only right to say something. I told my immediate supervisor last week, and then the girl I share my cubicle with, I told her, but we talk outside of the office too. Other than that, no one else in my office knows but I'm starting to get a little larger and eating all day long at my desk so I'm pretty sure people will figure it out eventually. lol

(I plan on telling others in the office in a few weeks after we have the next appointment with the genetic testing - just want to make sure everything is okay first before saying anything)

  • I told at 9 weeks after we heard a heartbeat because I have a very physical job and there were things I needed to be excused from.  I just told my boss and a few coworkers.  The rest of work found out after our NT scan at 12 weeks.

  • My supervisor was told almost immediately because I work with students that are seriously aggressive and I frequently have to go hands on with them. Everyone else knew around 12 weeks.

  • I told management at Banana Republic right away (5-6 weeks), even before family. I had severe m/s and spotting. I was told to stay off my feet which is impossible in retail.

Everyone else: family, students I teach piano too etc was 12-13 weeks.

  • Thanks for all the feedback!

I think I'm leaning toward calling an impromptu meeting with my new director and managing editor (formerly they were managing editor and sr staff editor, respectively) either this afternoon or Monday.

I'm nervous (in an excited sort of way), but so ready to not be keeping this secret anymore!

  • I told my boss pretty early, like 6 or 7 weeks, but mainly just because I was being monitored so closely by my RE and had weekly appointments. I didn't tell anyone else there until after my NT scan at 13 weeks.

  • I told my boss and another secretary I work with right after the b/w confirmed it. It was mostly because I am in and out of appointments between my two doctors. I also did tell a small group of people and family because Lexi likes to blab when she's excited. The rest of the world will know after Valentine's day.

  • I told my boss around 6 weeks because I was tired of her telling me I didn't "look well." I told one other girl around 8 weeks because she came into my office to tell me she was pg and was upset that our boss (who already knew about me) didn't look happy for her.  I thought it would make her laugh/feel better to know why our boss looked freaked out instead of excited. The rest of the office found out around 12 weeks.

  • I told at 13 weeks since I didn't have M/S and was in a new building.  I didn't think the very first discussion I had with a new principal should be "hey, I'm pregnant!"
