Okay ladies, I can't find any good internet lists.  What are some things you did or wish you did before baby arrived (other than set up the nursery, buy a stroller and basic baby stuff).  So far I have:

- clean out the fridge/freezer
- make a few freezer meals
- stock up on essentials like toilet paper, paper towels, sponges, cat food etc.
- deep clean
- plant my spring veggies and fix my sprinkler system

What else?

Re: stuff to do before baby?

  • I wish I would've gotten my hair done.

I also tried to keep up on laundry/dishes and I paid any bills due within two weeks of her due date.

  • I agree on paying any bills due around your due date before.

Funny Story- I thought I was going into labor one day but before heading into the hospital I went and paid my car. Lol. I didn't want to end up paying a late fee.

  • -Plan a weekend away with DH
-Schedule a wax/pedi/massage or something equally as self indulgent but impossible to do in the first few months
    - Clean or have someone clean the shower and tub
    - Buy something cute and comfy to wear home from the hospital and in the first few weeks when people visit. I bought myself a Lulu warm-up jacket that held everything in and made me feel good but was easy to access the girl for nursing.
    - Spend a day lounging around in pjs doing nothing. I would kill for a day like that these days.

  • I also bought myself new PJ's to relax in and was glad for it.

I would have had a few more date nights out with DH if I could do it over again.

  • Ditto what others said about bills, cleaning the house and car, stay on top of laundry, make sure your kitchen has staples/non-perishables so all you have to shop for is fresh food. I would add having all of the paperwork you need for maternity leave ready, if applicable. My leave was a pain in the ass to arrange and I work for a very large company that one might expect to have a streamlined process, but no. Make a list of phone numbers you need to arrange leave/print out forms/bookmark sites you will need.

  • I was induced a week early, so I really didn't get a chance to have that date night with H or have a pedicure for myself. One day I had a false alarm, so after that I cleaned my car and got my bags packed and the car seat was put into my car.

When I found out when I was going to get induced, I washed the house, put everything away, and made sure the essential items that I needed as soon as I got home from the hospital was ready to go. And like other pps had mentioned, to pay the bills or set an automatic deduction for all the due dates.

Freezer meals will be your lifesaver - crock pot meals, pizzas you can make and freeze, breakfast sandwiches/burritos/smoothies you can prep and freeze will be such an advantage to you.

  • huh. i didn't do anything like that. none of that seemed to be an issue post baby. i was able to get to the store just fine. now things like: sleep in with DH, date nights with DH, watch constant TV, eat with two hands, eat with DH (instead of in rotation), etc...those are the things that were impossible to do for a few months.
Thanks to our wonderful RE our family is complete!

  • I would have set up diaper changing stations on at least each level of my house that were fully stocked with diapers, wipes, creams, etc.

We also washed all clothes and hung them in the closet. Have a hospital bag completely ready.  Mine was only half done and I was running around trying to find things to put in it when my water broke.

I had a pedicure the week before the babies were born - it was my last one (hopefully I will get one this week) so I would make sure to do that.

I would also go on a date(s) with DH.

I didn't do any freezer meals or anything.  I didn't miss them at all.

Is your house 2 levels?  I would get a mini-fridge for the nursery if you have the room.  That has been the ultimate lifesaver.

  • Tt is two levels but we never go upstairs.  It's DH's man cave and a bathroom up there.

  • Most of these have been mentioned, but I want to second them.
    -pedicure
-Go see movies. In the theater.  All the movies.  You can take a baby pretty much anywhere, but not in a movie theater.  I miss seeing movies in the theater.
    -Get your hair done
-have a day where you do absolutely nothing.
