I was surprised to see Fangirl labelled as Realistic Fiction by the library. It's the first time I've seen a book tagged that way and I wasn't really aware that it was its own genre.
Is this a new thing? Or just something that I was unaware of?
And what exactly is 'Realistic Fiction'? It seems pretty broad.
Re: Realistic Fiction
But then there would probably be contemporary realistic fiction vs. realistic fiction.
I need to look into this further. Maybe someone has broken it down exactly what it is. I mean, I know what realistic fiction is within the fiction genre, just not where exactly it fits in as an actual genre of its own
Hmm... I thought that's what regular fiction or contemporary fiction was. What's the difference between contemporary fiction and realistic fiction?
Contemporary means taking place in the time period in which it was written...not historical fiction. Technically, Eleanor & Park is historical fiction, not contemporary fiction, because it takes place in the past. But it is realistic fiction.
