Re: CPW: Death and Taxes (but mostly just taxes)

  • I got a refund every year until 2006. I owed for 3 years, darn radio winnings and Zamboni driving. Then it was back to refund until we got married. So I just assume we will owe.

  • Ours are done but not filed yet. We're thinking about getting them done by someone else (no idea who yet) just to double check against Turbo Tax. Something seems... off. We owe a lot, either way, but the amount doesn't add up in our heads. Thankfully, we knew we'd owe this year so we held enough money back. I just want to be sure we don't OVER pay.

  • We live in Oregon, so we get to pay taxes on our taxes. We have no deductions and have no reason to itemize, so it is what it is. I miss refunds :( We used our 2011 tax refund to move to Oregon. The irony does not escape me.

  • We got a refund. I've only ever had to pay once.
  • We owe every year. It's annoying, but it's not worth changing our withholding. We save money out of every paycheck, so it works out in the end. Better than letting Uncle Sam hold my money for the year.
  • We are half way done and this is the first time we will get a refund in years. It's such a relief.

Working for the government means that my employer knows exactly what to deduct ;) I generally get a couple hundred dollars back. Just enough for a hooker and some blow.
I feel like we (canadians) typically have more accurate deductions. I have no idea why this is. I don't know many people, except those that are self employed and don't have deductions, that owe.
DH usually over pays because he has extra deductions due to working multiple jobs and then he gets it back.

  • I talked to DH about it last night...because of the partnership he has in the family farm and the fact that they always seem to get the investment stuff late, looks like we may have to file an extension.  Awesome.  It really bothers me that I can't do them already.  :(
