newborn photography session

dup post from fb: I found a great groupon deal for a newborn photography session and i'm trying to decide if I should make it a 1 or 2 hour shoot. 1 hour isn't enough if baby isn't cooperating I would assume, 2 hours would be waaaay too long if baby was!

thoughts?

Re: newborn photography session

  • we wern't planning on doing family photos, but I can see us getting one or two done at the same time. my H isn't really into posed photos so he may be hard to convince
  • the 1 hour is $39 and the 2 hour is $99 but you have to buy the photos after the session and thats $75
  • so the lady just emailed me back and said that she likes to get about 40 shots per hour but it can be less with a newborn. and that she suggests 2 hours for a newborn.
  • I would say an hour would be best. We did a couple outfit changes and had to feed her mid shoot and it still took less than a half hour. We didn't get many different pictures but we got what we needed without upsetting her too much.

  • That seems like a really good deal for 1 or 2 hour. I would personally go with a 2 hour, in case things go awry, and that also gives you time to do more family photos or at least mom and baby photos if your H isn't into it for too long :)

  • Our newborn session took 3 hours. That was including time to feed... She also peed on my husband and on a prop blanket. But we did them when she was 6 days old so she slept the whole time until she got hungry.

  • I'd definitely do 2 hours.  Newborns can be super easy or incredibly difficult to photograph.  Before contracting with them, I'd make sure there's a back up plan in place if they baby doesn't cooperate the day of (either a reschedule option or discount considering the number of shots you did get).  I'd also ask for references and to see some full galleries of their work, because that price seems way too low.

I looked at their website and it's very nice. There are full galleries of different types of shoots. I looked at the regular pricing for them and it's in line with other places around here.

    It's www.ironorchidphotography.com

At first glance, I would be concerned about two things.  1) They have run advertisements on their professional website and 2) They don't have regular pricing for newborns indicating they probably don't work with them often.  I just try to urge people to be careful about photographers that offer Groupons.  I'd hate for you to be unhappy with the pictures in the end.  But as long as your happy with the galleries you were able to see (I can't see any full galleries - only teasers) and pricing, that's all the matters then.

  • I see what you're saying! I was just really wanting to get a photo shoot done and I know if I don't plan something like this i'll end up with the standard crappy bella baby photos from the hospital
