Fun place to take a 2 yo for their birthday?

Hi ladies,
G turns two on Sunday and we'd like to take him somewhere fun to celebrate. Any suggestions? I'd really like to take him to a play place where he can run around and have a lot of fun.

As much as we love the Children's Museum, I don't want to go there again (it's our go-to). I mean I love it, but I'd like to go somewhere new/different.

He seems over the aviary. The last two times we've been there he's been less than impressed.

Is he too little for Ballocity at Fun Fore All?

I think he would love a jump/bounce place but I noticed they all have designated toddler times that are during the day (like 11am on Tuesdays).

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Re: Fun place to take a 2 yo for their birthday?

  • The Sewickley YMCA has the Hunter Gym, we just had our 2 yr old birthday there this past weekend and he had a blast!  They do have an open gym time but I don't know when it is-for non members as well.  It's probably during the week.  Have you looked at Bounce U's open bounce times?  I know they can be restrictive!  We will be there for a party on Sat evening.  We've never been to Fun Fore All for the kids anyway but someone else did just mention taking her own young kids there,  In Sewickley there is also Fun Buy the Pound, a small toy store with a small play section in the back perfect for that age.  Not open on Sun but you could go on Sat.  everything 40% off now too while they prepare for renovations, so he can pick out a present :)  Does he like rabbits??  Animal Friends has their Bun Runs usually on Saturdays, it's fun to take the kids while the bunnies just bounce and play around you.  We always take some veggies as a donation too.  Sundays are hard, but more to do if you are flexible!
  • The science center's fourth floor has a great set up for little kids, and they have a fun planetarium show geared to the little ones as well.

  • We took my son to the Science Center when he was 2 and he loved it! He loves it more now, at 3, but it was worth the money then too. I am pretty sure kids are free under 3 there.

  • You could also take him to a little gym or gymboree class if you want to give him the chance to bounce and run around.  It would only be an hour or so, so not an all day event.

  • Thanks, all. I got a lot of really great suggestions here and on facebook. We're having a friends/family party for him in a few weeks - but wanted to do something special to mark the day. At this point I know it's just for Casey and me and he won't remember :) We're definitely flexible whether we celebrate on Saturday or Sunday. I just can't do during the week stuff with my work schedule.

Deep winter birthdays are so tough! The possibilities can be so limiting. I appreciate all the suggestions.

  • we were at fun fore all on Sat for a 5 yr old bday party.  Depends on how adventurous he is without you (can he climb?) unless you want to be crawling all around in a ball pit/slides.  And if he doesn't go in then its a bust b/c the games are definitely for older kids.  I'd say the ball pit thing is  3-4 and up.   My almost 3 yr old wouldn't enjoy it.  Science center is fun
