Book Recs

We haven't done one of these in a bit. With 3 days on the couch, I plan on binge-watching House of Cards (any reviews - no spoilers?). I also would like to read something entertaining.

I like fiction and nonfiction. The last fiction book I read was The Husband's Secret (predictable, but recommended). The last nonfiction was Nothing to Envy (interesting look at N Korea). I am over dystopian lit and hated Divergent.

And...GO!
TTC #1 since Feb. '12. dx: "unexplained" IF

Re: Book Recs

  • I am over dystopian lit and hated Divergent.

    And...GO!

Can I just say I <3 this statement?

I love love love Susanna Kearsley. She is my new favorite author. The Winter Sea or Shadowy Horses would be my first recommendations of hers

Madame Tussaud by Michelle Moran is a fantastic historical fiction.

I really enjoyed The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Gailbreth(J K Rowling) but that genre is not my norm.

The Art Forager by B.A. Shapiro

  • I just finished reading The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.  Such a sweet story, but it may make you cry.  I'm obsessed with watching the movie trailer for it after having finished the book.

Before I that I read Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Coast Trail by Cheryl Strayed.  This is a memoir.  I enjoyed this one as well, although at times I was frustrated with Cheryl and her choices.  This is also being made into a movie (starring Reese Witherspoon).

A non book recommendation to entertain yourself for hours upon hours...the app QuizUp.  Once you start, you can't stop playing.

I'm so excited for you, lady!

  • I read it a while ago, but I really enjoyed The Queen's Dollmaker by Christine Trent. It's historical fiction about a girl who grows up and becomes a dollmaker for Marie Antoinette/the royal family.
