Going from job with a weekday off to working m-f

I work at a bank right now. I am off 3 out of 4 Mondays a month and off one Saturday a month. I work til noon on Saturdays. I went on an interview for a job in a field that I want to get back into. But this job is Monday thru Friday so I'd be off Saturdays whih would be nice. But yet I think id really miss that weekday off just because it's extra time for just me and the kids together. Especially during the summer when we can do lots of outdoor stuff together. At my current job I live only a few blocks away vs the new job which is just a 10-15 minute drive. I know I'm thinking too much into this but I do this with everything! Lol
So if you went from a job with a weekday off to working m-f if you regret not having that weekday off?

  • OMG I just posted nearly the same thing right under you!!! I do NOT want to give up my weekday off. I'm starting to realize that life isn't all about work...it's about the quality time you have outside of work. I'm doing my best to avoid going back to M-F. I feel so much more balanced with a weekday off. PLUS I can actually get to a bank, or the DMV or a doctor's office if I need to without having to ask permission from a boss! LOL!

For you though, if the new job is a "field you want to get back into" it may seem more important to you to like what you are doing while you're working than having that extra time off. It depends on if you are unhappy in your current position. If you feel really passionate about the new position, then you may have to sacrifice your free time to feel happier for those 40 hours every week. You've got to weigh the pros and cons.  Good luck with your decision!

  • I had a weekday off for the past 17 years (and worked most Saturdays).  I have been 9-5 for the last year and a half.  I do miss the weekday off.  Weekends are crazy for errands.  What wears me out is actually the routine of M-F.  Also, now that I have all weekend and 5 weeknights with my honey, I REALLY miss my alone time.  My weekday and week morning off were always time for me to recharge...
