Bridezilla FSIL (Vent)

My brother is getting married this summer. I get along with FSIL okay, but she is one of the most selfish people I have ever met.

She picked out $230 tuxes and is asking that the grandfathers wear them as well. My grandparent's are on a fixed income and that is expensive!

She picked 7 BM and told my brother he needed to have 7 GM. He picked a few friends and then she said that he should pick her brothers. All 3 of her brother's are in the WP, including her sister's BF.

I was a little upset that I wasn't asked to be a BM (at first) because I thought since they picked my H to be a GM, and all 3 of her brothers, that having family in the WP was important, but my sister, her husband and I are the only people in both families to not be in the WP. Also my sister's H will be the only man not wearing the same tux in both families as well.

I know we should never assume we are in someone's WP. But when you include 6 family members and leave out 3 it seems a little strange to me... But if the tuxes are $230 I am so glad I am not a BM, because who knows how much those dresses are going to be.

When discussing budget and guest list (her parent's are divorced so her family is a bit large) she stated that she would rather have a fancier wedding and a smaller guest list (i.e. cut people from the list that included family and close friends).

The are having a destination wedding. Although it's only a a boat ride and a 30 min car ride for 90% of the guest list, between the hotel and the boat reservation it is extremely expensive, not to mention that the majority of the people in the WP are just out of college or still in college, and they seem to be asking a LOT from their WP. I do not even want to know how much the bachelorette and bachelor parties are going to cost...

When discussing the budget her parents have said they would pay for everything and that my parents would pay for the RD. I know that this is old fashioned, but this is actually how people still do it in our area and how my sister's and my wedding were paid for. Well now her parent's are looking up things online to see who pays for what and are now asking my parent's to pay for the flowers and a bunch of other stuff. Now we all know that with money comes strings and whoever is paying gets a say on what he or she is paying for, which is what I told my mom, but we shall see how this all plays out.... she, like me, is not very confrontational about these things...

I am just so angry because I love my brother and I am so happy for him, but I just really don't like who he is marrying... don't they say that you really see who someone is while they plan their wedding? Well I do not like what I see.....

Re: Bridezilla FSIL (Vent)

  • I honestly feel for you and I completely understand. I have a SIL who married my brother and she is the same way. If they would have gotten married now there is no telling how she would act when they got married I think it was more important to her just to get married quickly. She is always real quick now to tell my parents they need to pay for something just because my brother works for them. Even though my brother doesn't feel that way. They have been married for 7 years and she still complains about the photography from the wedding. She used the same photographer I did and because they went so cheap they paid less than $500 for bridals and day of. Her mom complained about how much it cost them my parents paid half. Plus she complained that they didn't get a lot of pictures but halfway through the pictures her family came running in screaming people were leaving so she stopped pictures. They also opened presents at the reception in front of everyone (this is not normal here). If she is acting that way now then I will pray for you! And Imwould be so happy I'm not a BM.
  • Ugh...I shudder for you...and feel ya....Im really hoping my brother doesnt end up marrying his fiance still...they way they are lately...one can wish right???  UGH...

Planning a wedding def. brings out true colors in people I agree :(
