Checks

I need to order checks soon to be able to pay my rent.  I am in the process of getting a divorce and will be going back to my maiden name.  Now I don't want to waste a money on checks I will use 4 of...now can I write checks on the ones with my married name, or can I get the checks with both my maiden and married names listed so I can keep using them?

Please help.

Re: Checks

  • You can use the ones with your married name.  Ask your bank to be sure, but mine just told me to cross out my last name and write in my new one at the top, then sign with that last name.  Otherwise I could just sign them still with my maiden name (after I got married).
It's been almost 2 years and one of my accounts has both of our names on it and my checks have my maiden name on them still.  Whenever I write out a check I just sign my maiden name.

Also, don't order checks with your maiden name until you are legal that.

  • I was not going to order checks with just maiden...I was going to have both names on the check...if possible.
  • Just cross out the last name that does not apply and write your current last name.  I don't know about you BUT I for one was very happy to get rid of that last name and go back to my maiden.

  • When you change you name with the bank, ask them about the checks.  They told me to use the old ones and sign the bottom with "newlegalname aka oldnameoncheck".
