XP from FB: Strollers (Ladies with Smaller Cars)

I'm starting to think about car seat/stroller systems. I have a Toyota Corolla, so while I've always found the trunk space decent, I know folding a stroller into it could present a problem (since fitting my sister's stroller in there a year ago was only possible by removing the front wheel).

What did you get to fit in your compact car's trunk?!

  • We have the Chicco Liteway Plus.  It's just like a travel system to where you can put the car seat into it, but it's also an umbrella stroller for wheen LO gets bigger.  FWIW, I have a Honda Civic, so the car size is comparable.  I do have to put it in sideways a little, but it works for us!

  • I have a Pontiac vibe which is basically a carolla hatchback (made by Toyota on a corolla frame - odd I know). We use a snap and go with the car seat for quick trips (really like it) and we hve a bob revolution. The bob fits fine without having to remove any of the wheels. We really like both strollers.

If you haven't gotten it, "baby bargains" is a great book, can't reccomend it enough. It is the consumer reports of baby gear.

  • I have Toyota Corolla as well and we have one of the Graco Fast Action Click Connect strollers. It fits fine in the trunk without too much maneuvering.

I have a really small car (Chevy Aveo hatchback) and wasn't able to fit a travel system in it. So we got the Chicco Keyfit30 seat, and used the Chicco stroller caddy to roll it around. When she outgrew that, we got a Chicco Echo stroller.

We bought the first two pieces at ToysRUs (with 20% off coupons) and the Echo at Target, and after all we paid about $275 which is cheaper than some travel systems. But since it was three pieces, we could hold off on the standard stroller for a while. And when we were done with the carseat and caddy, I sold them on Craigslist and recouped some of my money.

I had a travel system with my son, and after trying the caddy there is no way I'd ever go back to a bulky travel system. It was really awesome to have a stroller to wheel the bucket seat around on, and the caddy is smal enough that the foot print of it is the exact same size as the carseat. I was able to take it places that a travel system stroller would have been too big for.
  • I have the baby trend expedition and I drive an Aveo sedan. It fits snuggly in the trunk and is pretty much the only thing in there aside from a few blankets and a wiffle bat.
