Leiann and other folks with PPS kids.
I grew up in Beechview and I'm a big advocate for PPS - I'm just a little nervous about our home schools. I went to Brashear in the 90s and I don't really want G to go there.
Leiann, do your boys go to Banksville or Beechwood? Did you do pre-k?
Other PPS folks - did you do pre-k? Any insight into Pittsburgh Montessori? I wanted to apply for G for Montessori pre-k (which would be roughly this time next year) but I don't want to waste my time if the chances of him being picked in the "lottery" are slim-to-none.

Hey Ryan!
Hayden goes to Whittier on Mt. Washington since he needs to be in the autistic support classroom. I absolutely love his school, the staff is wonderful. Nolan goes to Beechwood and so far I really like his school as well. His teacher is kind, but firm and is wonderful with the kids. Also, the principal is very nice. We didn't do pre-k since the hours didn't work with our work schedules. FYI, Beechwood starts at 8:10 and Banksville doesn't start until 9:10. That makes a huge difference for us with our work schedules.
One advantage of the language magnets (Liberty, Linden, Fulton) is that your kid is automatically in at Obama IB, so you don't have to do any further magnet lotteries if you don't want to.
The positive of doing public pre-k is that you won't be paying for daycare. The downside is that you will probably need before and/ or aftercare, and your kid's sch
Overall, we're having a good PPS experience.
That's what I thought too, but according to their enrollment application whether you pay or not is dependent on household income. We'd actually pay more for pre-k than we do for daycare. I just found that out about 10 minutes ago. I had been told by a lot of people that as city residents we would get free pre-k. I guess their funding was cut or maybe it was a misunderstanding of the program, sigh. I was bummed to learn that.

Honestly, this whole paying thing is new and I'm not sure how it works. We are just going to apply and see what happens. They had 2 pre-k classrooms this year, I'm not sure how many 4 yr olds there are that are moving on, but that affects how many spots there are since the kids who are 3 in the program are automatically renewed for the next year.
