Any Spring projects??

Just wondering. I was bored. :) Are there any projects any of you ladies were planning on starting when your winter is over?? We were finally going to get on doing our yard. Our backyard is a joke. Totally blank canvas and I want to start a little herb garden, put up pretty flowers and bushes. Hopefully can get our patio looking inviting and cute. I am a little clueless when it comes to gardening, and keeping plants live, but I want to start. lol Hopefully FX we can get started on this at the end of the month... xo Happy Hump Day girls!!!

  • We plan on ripping out our ugly hedges and putting up a fence. Installing our flag pole. Building up the garden and expanding it.

I also have a bunch of inside stuff I want to do on our enclosed porch and mudroom.

Lots of things! I love projects like this and can't wait to get rid of the damn ugly hedges!

  • Good luck with keeping things "green."  I'm no green thumb at all, but just experiment with different plants and designs.  One of the best things I did was ask many many questions at a local landscape place, and brought pictures of what I was trying to fill in. Also, herbs aren't too easy to kill.  So you should be good.

    Here's my list so far:
    1. Rip out the ceiling in our spare bedroom/nursery.
    2. Finish landscaping around new patio.
    3. Do some landscaping where our old bushes were.
    4. Re-lay brick around side of garage.
    5. Make a raised garden and plant vegetables. (I used to plant them in pots)
    6. Tear down old firepit and build a new one in different spot.

We spend our entire summer outdoors, and I usually try to have lots of little projects to do.

  • We have quite the list
    1) finish basement
    2) plant spruces at the front of the property
    3) Plant grass seed (this is my #1 bc we have so many ants in the yard which bring bees)
    4) Relocate some plants and replace the ones that have died from the winter.
    5) Finish siding the house
    6) Finish the dining room reno
    7) Repair driveway

These are really all things DH needs to do and I just help a little here and there.
Our biggest issue are the bees, or really my biggest issue. We have SOOO many bees and I have a severe fear of bees so it makes it very difficult for me to even enjoy our backyard because of them.

  • We're going to work on our yard too.  We have a crawfish boil every year in April for H's birthday and we'd really like to have it done by then.

We want to cover our existing small cement patio with stone and then extend the stone out and make a larger patio.  I'd also like to have an herb garden and have some flowers for color.  I really hope that we can avoid replacing our sod, but there's a lot of weeds mixed in and I'm not really sure if we'll be able to kill those off without killing our grass.  We also have a lot of mulch in the backyard and the lining for that is coming up so that all has to be replaced.

It's going to be a lot of work!!  Just thinking about it all is making my back hurt.

We haven't made a list yet, but I hope we can when DH gets home from work. I also wanted to chime in about the paragraphs. I usually post from my iPad and have trouble with paragraphs, so I use HTML code. The code you want is < #br #>(without the #).

Two <#br#> codes will give you the white space.

  • We also need to spruce up our yard. We haven't done much to it since we purchased 3 years ago... Still need to come up with some ideas and pick out plants. I hate landscaping.

I also want to finish painting... We still have to finish our master suite and the kitchen (these rooms all had wallpaper and seem to be taking forever).
  • I really want to whip our yard into shape, maybe do some flower gardens, fix the fence in a few places, and paint the front door for some curb appeal. I'm really looking forward to spring!

My husband is very opinionated when it comes to our house!  But the problem is that he only likes one color - blue.  He wants blue everywhere!  Our living area, second bathroom, guest room/office, and laundry room are all different shades of blue.

  • We need to get rid of everything that's currently in our back bedroom/guest room. That includes getting rid of DH's old full-sized bed, the little end tables we grabbed a Walmart to put in there, and a cheapo dresser he got back in college. His childhood dresser is being relocated, and I have no idea where we're going to put the huge trunk that's at the end of the bed right now.

Everything needs to be cleared out so we can rip up the carpet, put down new flooring, and turn that room into the new office. We have zero design plans for it yet, so we need to get moving!

All I know is that we need a long desk to fit a couple of workstations (desktop and our laptops), one large or a couple of smaller filing cabinets, shelving, and to figure out the layout so we can arrange the futon and bookshelves we already have in the room we're currently using as the office.

  • I want to do LOTS of things, I need my H on board with me. Like painting. Iwould LOVE to repaint our living/dining room. He puts it on me and won't do it, says its MY project. I'm like, no its OURS. I did the kitchen all by myself, but I was also not working for a couple weeks, so I spent my time doing that. I work all week too and its our house. Lol, he takes a lot to get him to want to work on house projects. I'm going to have to really get on him this season!!!

  • We WERE planning to redo our pool deck and backyard, but when life gave us a curveball, all our fall/winter projects were put on hold so we've had to push back and will finish those.. This list will probably take us well into summer, btw!!

    1. Finally build the cabinet doors/drawer fronts for the kitchen. Install the backsplash. Ideally, i'd like to re-tile, but that's probably a project for another year :(

    2.  Put in the can lights in the kitchen and finish replacing various light fixtures throughout the house

    3. Build the living room built-in bookshelf

    4. Unpack and finish purging our belongings. Downsizing is hard, y'all! This one right here could probably take me all spring. It's ridiculous how much crap we've held onto. And it's hard to put stuff away when the cabinets and shelves aren't even built yet! Our garage is a danger zone right now.

    5. build master bath countertop (it'll be stained wood) and hopefully get a new backsplash installed.

    6. prime and paint the hall bath cabinets, paint the walls, build countertop, install tankless water heater/redo closet.

    7. and if we still have money and/or time, we need to replace at least a few of the windows. They all need it, but we'll probably do them in sections.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but at this point.. I don't care lol..

In Christ alone my hope is found. He is my LIGHT, my STRENGTH, and my SONG!

It might. It was renovated from a garage years ago, and there's a step down into it from the dining room. All around 3 walls of the room is, basically, a cinderblock lip that's roughly the height of the step down into the room. I have no idea why it's like that; just one more lazy asshole shortcut the previous owners took when doing anything to the house.

So that lip is going to be our main obstacle. We can't raise the floor height up level to it, or the ceilings will be too low, and it's too narrow to use as the base of, for example, a long built-in bookshelf. We're going to need to figure out how to get things up flush to the wall on the sides where that lip is (the one wall that doesn't have it is where the garage would have opened previously).

  • First we have to decide if we're going to rent this house another year. If so, most of the projects include some kind of outdoor work. These include putting the wall back up on the lean-to that the previous renters removed, making the barn pasture fence look higher since Vegas jumped it this fall, and trying to convince the landlords to let us burn all the wood piles that they put in our pastures. We'd also like to put in a vegetable garden which would have to include putting up a deer fence. The only inside project right now would be getting the house more organized.
